i remember some years ago when i was living on 31st street here in baltimore i had that problem. No sign of thoose buggers now tho.

Yes, living down on gold st. in NY, after one walked accross my wifes face and woke her up, we got a Tokay Gekko, cleared that problem right up. No roaches here though, another BIG plus for Iceland.

that's funny cause I lived right off of York Rd. in Baltimore in a shithole apartment and it was completely infested with those fuckers. It got so bad that my fish went crazy because I think they were eating the roaches when they fell into the tank! I had three non-fighting fish in the tank together that just started eating the shit out of each other because of those damn cockaroaches. I get sick just thinking about it. Let's hope I never have to go thru that again.

Ick....Those things are just nasty. When I lived in D.C., at nighttime I could hear those things crawling across the kitchen floor. And whenever I went to go sit on the front stoop at nighttime I would see them...and they were huge...like half the length of my foot... Not nearly as bad as the sewer rats though. I was so happy to move out of that place....

I live in the DC/VA area, but have been fortunate to not have much roach experience. we had a crappy townhouse in N. Arlington when I was a kid that had a few, but it wasn't that bad. the idea of a gekko lizard is awesome though.

holy crap, where were you living toga?

Foggy Bottoms/ George Washington University area...

On "F" Street...right up the street from the Renwick..

I had that problem in Knox, TN when I had an apartment there, they would only come out at night and generally chill in the kitchen. Once our filthy ass neighbors all moved out the roaches disappeared.

Chefwide - I've always thought the Tokay idea was badass... gotta ask you about that - did you ever notice gecko turds anywhere? Are they smart enough to NOT do things like crawl into the fans that run behind/under refrigerators (since this is apparently where they go when released inside).

I've never had them in any place I've lived before but it would freak me out if I did. I can deal with mice but now roaches.

I don't think you people understand what bug infestation is until you live in the dirty south. Cockroaches? pff.. Those things are miniscule compared to palmetto bugs. Having 3-4" palmetto bug fly across your room and land on the wall is quite an experience. Plus all the mosquitos, funky looking catepillars, worms, etc makes for a fun summer. Calling pest control is a routine thing down here

The same apartment I lived at - went up to the pool one night about 11pm - midnight, there were groups of 3-5 cockroaches everywhere, If I had to guess, 15 or more of these groups, all apparently having group sex.
not cool.

I went to visit my half-sister when she lived in St. Thomas, USVI for a month when I was 12 & she had those palmetto bugs. Right when the sun went down they all crawled inside the house. ugh!! We would stand on chairs & spray them.

Here where I live now I get water bugs (look like a cockroach/palmetto bug) on occasion in the basement. The cats love to play with them. I hate when I find a leg on the floor, I always wonder what happened to the rest of it....

don't forget the centipedes... fast and poisonous. I've seen big ones catch and eat roaches. Then I doused em with diesel and lit em up.
