there's a lot of complications involved, but your best bet is to go to

uspto.gov and check out all they have to offer as far as information. at some point you're going to want a lawyer, but we have lots of clients that do a lot themselves to save money. either way it's not cheap...

Ya, I have gone there and did a pretty thorough search and found nothing similar. I am writing a brief and kinda doing some sketches. I figured the more I do now will be less $$$ down the road. Thanks for the reply. What is the process for shopping your idea after you get a paten pending and how long does the paten process take?

i submit ideas through my company. I write a proposal, do small research, and approve the patent app. I only get a half decent cash reward, so i only submit stuff thats only work related.
