hard gaining first timer needs advice

Hi everyone.

I've been lurking on the board for a month or two just reading up and trying to gather as much info as I can before I start asking questions. First, a little info on my current situation. I started working out about 18 months ago and went from 182 down to 158 over about 3-4 months...dropped my gut, cut my body fat and got lean. Then I changed gears and started putting on lean mass. Another 3-4 months and I was up to ~172-175 and 7-9% body fat. Then I had my right elbow reconstructed which took me out for a good 6 months. I've been back working hard for about 3 months but haven't budged from a solid 172-175. I eat well (was doing 5-6k cal a day for about 6 weeks with no results, now I'm down to 3k till I figure everything out). I'm about 5'8".

So now I'm looking for a little extra help. I want to try a very simple, relatively safe 6-8 week oral only cycle. Of course I want to gain mass, but I'm looking to stay as lean and cut as possible...I'm willing to sacrifice some mass potential to keep lean. So I'm not trying to get as big as possible as fast as possible.

I'm looking at Dbol 35mg ED for 4-6 weeks and either winny (30mg ED) or anavar/papervar (30-40mg ED) for 2-4 weeks with Proviron for the entire cycle and of course Clomid after.

Both Winny and Avarav seem expensive, but for a few weeks I can probably do it. From what I read, Dbol only isn't worth the time.

I looked into Anadrol, but it's just too dangerous...opinions?
I looked at Andriol but general opinion is it's crap...true?

So, I'd like some suggestions from the vast knowledge of the board...what to do? I'm open to other suggestions provided it's oral only, relatively safe, and not going to cost a fortune (ex. anavar only)

17lbs of lean mass in 3-4mo doesn't sound like a hard gainer to me.

To me, you sound like someone who in the past year decided to start getting into shape. And you made a lot of progress quickly. This is normal. Then you started making progress much more slowly, also normal. Now you have decided that you want to try steriods to make that rapid progress return. This is also a normal urge. IMO, though, it is a bad decision. Keep busting you ass and gaining 10lbs a year for the next few years before you decide to make this jump...
 
You're about spot on I guess! What has me thinking along these lines is that I've been working very consistently and hard, keeping my diet reasonable and haven't gained anything in 3-4 months. Even while I was recovering from surgery I was lifting legs fairly hard and kept my cardio going. I'm just stuck at 173+/- 2 lbs depending on the day.

Dude, I lifted naturally for 10yrs (on and off) and the past six years really consistently. I would go MONTHS (like up to six sometimes) without making much of any progress. Then suddenly I'd start adding weight in the gym and on the scale. For me natural lifting was one plateau after another. Go to the training board and ask some questions. You may need to play games with your program. I would sometimes make progress by killing all cardio for a couple of months and sometimes I'd kill all lifting for two to three weeks and just bust ass on the cardio then go back to lifting and feel like I was dying trying to push the old weight again...
 
I'll probably give it a little while longer to see if I can't get some momentum and start gaining again. I'm going to bump my diet up to 4000cal for a couple months and see if I can't make something happen

I'm still interested in a simple lean mass cycle in case I don't make any progress in the next 6 months or so.

I've also been reconsidering the oral only approach. Looks like Sus 250 for 8 weeks would do me good. At only 1 stab a week, I think I could handle it. It's relatively safe and cheap from what I understand. I'd probably do 50mg Proviron ED along with it.

my thoughts exactly. but why not up it to 500mg per week? still just once a week. and i am adding 50mg dbol for first 5 weeks, i am also thinking of using the tren tabs at 50mg ED for the 10 weeks if money allows it. also i am going to use proviron too, been on femara and i am switching to proviron to see what happens.
 
I'm in a similar situation

you make huge beginner gains (i gained 45 lbs in a little over a year) then just completely stopped (havent gained much lately)

Here are several suggestions to break your plateua.. some worked for me:

first take 1 week off lifting and enjoy yourself

come back with all new routines and a super clean diet

eat 4,000 cals a day.. and increase by 500 calories each week until you see weight gains on the scale (weigh only in morning, first thing when you wake up)

creatine is helpful to pass a platuea, other supplements may help too.. maybe prohormones like 4-AD and 1-test will aid you some

get good sleep


all those things above are what have helped me pass my plateuas.. I wouldnt think of using gear for at least a couple more years... plus I bet you it will be even harder to make gains naturaly than now after you're done with your cycle. you'll get into the hole, and keep doing cycles.. I would wait before you cross over :D
