Haircut ....clippers sizes....

In Europe they have different settings/numbers for clippers as they use centimeters /millimeters instead of inches...

Does anyone know the conversion in terms of clippers?

Supposing I do a # 2 on the sides in USA ....what would be the conversion in centimeter/millimimeters? ... thus I know what to ask when I am in Europe for a haircut.

BTW, what does # 1, 2, 3 and so on mean?

i wanna say a #3 is 3/8"?? dont quote me though i think thats what i over herd my haircut lady say

#1 is 1/8" or 3mm
#2 is 1/4" or 7mm
etc.

The number represents 8th of an inch as mdd said. So a #1 is a #1 where
ever you are in the world.

If you tell a hairdresser In Europe "a # 2 on the sides, please"...she/he will have no clue what the hell is # 2....as they have all their clipper sizes in mm....thus I will have to tell her "please use the 5 mm clipper".......

make them use scissors... that's what you're paying them for.

Agreed. If they're using clippers, get a better stylist.

We are metric here too, but its still called a #1 etc. But like above, scissors all round is a better option. :)

good stylist can get you near a "#3" with scissors, and with some texture it will look a million times better than if it's just redefining the shape of your head 5/8 of an inch away from your scalp.

What's th difference between # 3 with scisors and #3 with cilppers??

In my case I go with # 2 on the sides....and I dont think scissors can do it...t

texturizing... essentially cutting with the tips of the scissors at a 30-60 degree angle to leave some hairs slightly longer than others... this creates a "textured" effect, allowing the hairs to lay together in groups as opposed to all being the exact same 1/4 inch or w/e u decide to do. Generally ultra short sides make you look very young too.. and not in the good way. Someone can post a pic of texturized short hair and buzzed hair
