On BBC Radio 4 right now is a series called "high school diary" where they go round asking kids at a high school in some rich part of tenessee somewhere about the "issues" they deal with.
The problem I have with this is that it portrays americans as rich, overpriveleged, stupid and obsessed with the mall. Now, some rich yuppie teenagers are like that, but I KNOW that's not the norm over there.
What about the millions of americans, some of whom I know from the net who don't fit that stereotype? The ones who don't eat fast food every day, or the ones who have NO MONEY to speak of, who have after-school jobs to pay for food, not clothing at the mall? Argh. I work with many Americans and I know they get shit from people about their nationality all the time.... I'd go nuts.....
I hate stereotypes of all kinds. This one most of all.
