Apparently Blair was willing to resign if he'd lost his vote to approve of war in Iraq.

Combine that with instances like the Dutch government resigning en masse after it turned out that the srebrenica massacre was partly due to the Dutch government, do people still think the idea that political leaders or governments can act out of altruism is impossible?

There is alot of cynicism saying its 100% impossible for governments to be altruistic, but i fail to see how Blair's willingness to resign or the resignation of the dutch government can be explained by pure selfishness. Wouldn't it be more selfish to stay in power by any means necessary?

Combine that with the fact that 90% of americans think defending human rights should play a part in governmental policy, i fail to see how hte idea that governments can act out of altruism is impossible.

The dutch don't really have a government per se, they just make lots of porn and wooden shoes.
