Got owned by Karl Marx.......

Been trying to read his 'Communist Manifesto'........just for kicks. Shit it took me 3 attempts to understand the first chapter properly. He keeps using all these big words and he doesnt explain some things........

Does not look good for when I read Capital and some of his other, longer, works.

Anybody else have this problem?

It's hard and long. Capital is even worse. Actually this is probably the reason why few people really know what marxism/communism is.

But at least, it's not porrly written like Mein Kampf...

Mein Kampf is on my hit list too.........figured I'd get my head around Marx first though..........this could take a while.

And then after the Quran, read the Hadith, then go back to the Bible.

I will never read the bible -- I am atheist.

I would be really interested to read Mein Kampf actually.

I'm not a communist but I am reading Marx.

Personally I find the Bible and the Quran hard work........so for now I'm not bothering.

Depends upon the definition of 'prayed' that they used. Could they be including meditation?

You do have a point and it is definetly hard work... but the bible and religion are not for me. Its the way I have always been, and the way I always will be. To each his own.

The Communist Manifesto was a pretty difficult read.

It didn't take much longer than an average book of that size would have though.

It's something everyone should probably read- it was such a huge influence in history. I thought it was quite interesting... Marx was a pretty good persuasive writer.

yeah, I was an atheist too, but I read the Bible, and ... ... I'm still an atheist. Actually, no. I think I'm agnostic or something.

Well I coulda read it quicker but I was trying to get my head around all of the reasons why he thought communism was the way to go........so the first chapter took a while. After that it was easy.......

Now I'm onto Capital :)

WTF? I find that a little hard to believe. Did they ask if they had ever praied in their lives, or on a regular basis?

I personally have not done anything that could even be compared to praying for six years.

What annoys me the most is when news shows started making up studies of how hospitalized people that pray a lot recover better.

As soon as they started making those claims a few universities preformed studies that concluded that there is no relation between prayer and recovery. People can believe in what ever they want but they really should stop making shit up to fill their insecurities.

Communism seems very noble in theory. Certain religious leaders over the years have admitted that socialism follows a lot of christian principles.

If man wasn't so inherently corrupt maybe it would have worked.

We have apparently arrived at similar conclusions. However, I am not so sure that I would use the word 'corrupt'. Humans are competitive as they have evolved in a hierarchical society. We are just doing what we have evolved to do.........unfortunately it doesnt sit well with communism.

That's true... i just used corrupt in reference to how communism manifested (heh) itself in Russia. The corrupt government officials got rich while the rest of the population stayed poor.

Communism likely would have failed anyways but it probably wouldn't have been such an acute detriment to the general population if the Russian government wasnt so corrupt.

It was interesting how different Communism is in theory- as Marx intended- from the way it's portrayed and referenced in America.

This was the power of Marx's ideas, that to the common non-thinking man, Communism was some sort of noble plan. Garbage. Communism is by definition anti-freedom, there is nothing noble about lacking any control over your life, being subservient to the whims of the multitudes, only being allowed to retain goods to maintain your bare existence. Simply because a man claims that you can have this, but fails to effectively explain how this will occur, does not make it so. It is no different than peddling snake oil.

Marx was criticized extensively during his own years, but utilized the same tactics of modern leftists which is to demonize your opponents or as Marx did, claim that your vision is an essential change of history, something that is going to become.

Those who believe that Socialism is a noble idea do not understand the concepts of rights and economics, and simply yearn for the pie-in-the-sky dream of "something for nothing". Not to mention they have an innate desire that is threatening to all who love freedom, for they deeply wish to have something and will accept anything, even deny the rights of their fellow men, to attain this end. To acheive cradle to grave security, they will accept the regulation of all aspects of life.
