I went to my local CVS pharmacy(east coast) last night to pick up some toothpaste and stuff. Anyways, there is a younger guy behind the pharmacy counter and since it was almost closing there wasn't anybody there. I was still in my business casual clothes (khaki's & polo shirt). I took my items up to him and asked him if I could get 2 bottles of Humalog, just like that. He asked if I had a prescription and I told him I usually get my insulin through the mail(because I actually do get most of my regular prescriptions sent on a 3 month supply from a pharmacy that works with my insurance carrier) but I said that I was out and they hadn't arrived in the mail. He didn't even really hesitate and said how many bottles you need? He reached down and got two bottles, which I paid $23 per bottle. He even asked if I had my insurance card with me and I said no because I wasn't really planning on coming to the pharmacy. It's been said here a 1000 times, stay away from insulin unless you know what you're doing and I will say the same but for those into slin it doesn't hurt to ask, all they can do is say no if it's after hours, and you ask with the confidence that "I'm a diabetic and I'm out of insulin" they'll probably say no problem. This is the first time I've ever asked and I was suprised at how casual the pharmacist was.
