1 - As everyone else said, it is a hemorrhoid . They are fairly common, usually not dangerous, and generally very uncomfortable.

2- As 2dagym said, it is best to go to the doctor for a diagnosis. Quite frankly, we could all be wrong. Also, if it large, you will NEED to see a doctor for treatment.

Sounded like a hemorrhoid. Was it firm? Sounds like it became thrombosed. Although it corrected itself on its own, a lot of them don't. We incise them in the emergency department and patient's get immediate relief. In general, hemorrhoids shouldn't hurt.
