Sorry about your dog man, I know how much animals can mean to someone. Off topic...there was a thing on tech-tv last night about a multi-million dollar pet spa/kennel. It's all networked so you can see your dog at any time over the web. They have TV's in each kennel running Animal Planet 24hrs/day, or you can leave a video of your family for your pet to watch. They're treated great, have some special water aerobic thing, some bath area where they mix air pulses in with the water and soap to get a massage while getting a bath etc... it was $70 or so a night for your pet. I shall find a link.
There are pet groomers, and then there are pet spas. A new high tech spa has opened in the Washington, DC, suburbs, and it's got everything that you could want -- never mind your pet. Your dog can try a hot hydrotherapy pool for soaking, or even check out TV and 75 satellite channels. Sound ridiculous? Its owners shelled out $7 million for the place, and the animals are flocking to it.
