I might be going skiing or the firs time this weekend. What kinda stuff do I need aside from the ski's themselves. Do i need a special jacket and pants..What doi wear in the ski's? Do i wear regular boots and then put the skis on them? What other kinds of clothing do I need? I never did this before and I wanna be prepared..Also, anybody know of any stores that sell this type of equipment?? Is it expensive?

Dress warm and windproof. If you´re a once-a-year-skier then check up if you can rent skiis instead, it becomes a lot cheaper and you´ll get the latest equipment.

Ski's and boots. The ski boots you wear snap into the ski's to hold your feet in place. You will get them when you rent the ski's. As far as a 'special' jacket and pants... I would wear like a pair of long john underwear, with waterproof, padded ski pants. These aren't too expensive at a place like Popular, REI, etc... you don't need name brand to stay warm. You may also be able to rent 'bibs' or a jacket where you rent your ski's... that would help with the cost. The key to remember when you are buying ski shit, you want waterproof material. As you haven't skied before, a little padding in the pants would also be nice to have. A warm pair of gloves is also crucial. The type that you can velcro around your wrist to prevent snow from entering the glove.

Hope you have a blast!!!

Why don't you try snowboarding? They say it takes years to get good at skiing but snowboarding becomes fun after a few times out.

Besides, only geeks ski...

*ducking for cover*

I learned to ski pretty good in about 2-3days but one thing is for sure, I´m NEVER getting up on a snowboard again. The pain when I fell backwards.... :bawling: It felt like my butt crack ripped all the way up to my neck.

Yeah, it is really hard on your ass at first and you should buy wrist guards if you have to type for a living. Once you start carving it all becomes soooooo worth it and you don't fall on your ass much any more.

Bullshit!!! Skiing is SOOOOOOO much easier to learn than boarding! Learning to snowboard is fucking painful!!!

You've obviously been sking for a long time...

Actually, the 19th of this month it will be ten years that I haven't skied. I was 15 at the time, my buddy got out of control and smashed into me... breaking my leg in two places.

After that... I learned how to board. I learned to ski when I was a kid... it was probably harder than I remember... I plan on facing my fear of skiing soon. :)

Boarding is infinitely easier to learn but skiers always say it's hard to learn as they've likely been skiing all of their life.

Rent the Ski's/ Ski boots poles if you can....
Other than that you need Min:

cheap Ski Bibs x 2 (they will get wet)
Wool Socks worn over cotton socks x 2
Ski jacket or waterproof heavy nylon jacket
Longjohn bottoms/top depending on the weather
Shades or goggles depending on the weather
Warm Hat

Top Bottom
