Goddamn! Sweet potatoes are good!!

I have been way too into regular baked pot. so I recently bought some sweet ones. Holy Shit are these good! I just slapped a boatload of cot. cheese on em and they are fantastic. Anyone know the major difference between sweet pots and regualr ones? I am assuming the sweet pots are higher GI.

That's a negative on the higher GI, it's actually quite lower

Sweet Potatoe GI = 77
Backed Potatoe GI = 121
 
O.K., now here's the kicker:

Is that the "orange coloured sweet potatoes" or the "yellow coloured sweet potatoes"?

According to my info, they are both sweet potatoes, and yams are actually indiginous to Africa and we don't eat yams in N. America. (in case someone was going to say "these are yams and those are sweet potatoes")

I like the yellow ones but MAN! I feel like I'm cheating when I eat them.

Usually I have about a tennis-ball sized portion with my chicken, pork, beef, fish, whatever.
 
Yams (the orange) have a lower GI. I prepare mine this way:

3 large yams microwave for 20 minutes. Let cool. Scoop out all the contents and dispose of the skin. Then add cinnamon, 3 packets of splenda and vanilla soy milk and mash the fuckers until they are at mash potato consistency. Tastes like pumpkin pie:p .

Just started getting in to eating these. The other night I baked one big one in the microwave. Split it in half. Put garlic powder on it. And then put olive oil on it and mushed it in real good.
VERY GOOD!! Healthy and I got some more good fat from the olive oil. Great alternative to butter or sweetner.
Just an idea!!
 
Yams are the yellow colored, sticky, tastless ones. Sweet potatoes are the orange, sweet tasting, delicious ones.

You got it backwards... At least in every grocery store I go to the Yams are orange and tasty and the sweet potatoes are yellow.

You're right. I was thinking of a different country.
 
They're also good sliced like fries or scalloped and fried up with some olive oil, cajun seasoning and possibly onions (onions are pretty high GI though). You can also oven roast them the same way.

Sweet Pot are the perfect postworkout food...........while Yams are the perfect carb source for any other time of the day.....toss out the bread and rice and jump on these........Oats, yams and Sweet Pot.......my only carbs!




Although, I wouldnt mind having a peanut butter protein bar late night as my daily reward for an intense train, but I'm not sure how it will effect my diet.........
 
Sweet potato salad, Boil them and cut them into cubes, add oil(optional) and vinigar. Slice some garlic and place in the bowl, and toss the confection together, fucking awesome.
