I like the fact 1 out of 10 go back to killing Americans. It makes soooooo much sense to release them! I am surprised someone didn't think of it earlier.

Honestly, as a squad/platoon leader, I would discourage taking prisoners unless it was our op order.

If I was a commander - i'd just capture the prisoners - then 'accidentally' tell their enemies (shiites, sunnies) where they are. And look the other way when they get kidnapped at night to be taken somewhere and beheaded.
Best way to win wars, is let the two sides kill each other. Why do all the work when they'll do it for you??

If I was Rumsfeld, i'd just pay Mehdi army to go kill the other bad guys. I bet all those insurgents could easily be paid off and under our control. Religion means bullshit to fancy plasma tv's, pizzas, food for their families, dvds, nice clothes and other bullshit. Give their leader a Ferrari, fuck. He'll never touch a us soldier again.
Didn't we learn ANYHING from the pilgrims and how they won over militant indians when they landed??? (but oh wait, I forgot. There's NO MONEY in winning wars quickly).
