Getting worked to death.

Well I am doing my billing for work right now and damn do I work too much. My hours so far for april are over 200 my hours for march were over 300 and both January and February were in the 200's so I basically have worked over 1,000 hours so far this year. To put this in perspective a standard US work year is 2,080 hrs I have done half of that in the first third of the year.

Just thought I'd mention that I am in need of a vacation badly and just when I thought I was going to get to take the rest of this week off they let me know that I have to fill in for someone else that had a family emergency.

Cheers,

I feel for you. I know that feeling.

as long as you are being fairly compensated, either with salary or goodwill...

Got about double my hours, but I don't have a real job yet.

I'm gonna have to learn how to work smarter, not harder (when possible).

Yeah either would be nice but I am underpaid(Severely) and have had one full weekend off since back into February and had to go to my great aunts funeral then.

I live in your world. I took a vacation in January, and this past weekend was my first day off in 6 weeks. The days are about 12 hours, and I have a cell phone / treo that knows no time limits.

What you have to do for yourself is spend what you earn on things that make your life easier - get some nice stuff around the house, get a cleaning lady, etc. Stop doing all of those daily tasks like laundry and cooking, and free up the time you do have.

When you can, get a second residence someplace - a small condo is fine - that you can go to and work remotely.

This is how I stay sane. I am lucky that I love my job and the people I work with are really top notch.

Cell phone=anchor.

Problem is my work is done on job sites all around the world so I don't have the chance to work from home. These hours are all at the office or on a job site, if I got to do part of my work at home I wouldn't feel so pissed about it. Laundry doesn't bother me and I love cooking, I just have given up on cleaning my place and it has become a regular shithole, but now I never have time to clean it up and there is no way I would pay for someone to clean my place since I am never there. I have spent 12 nights at home in the last 10 weeks.

Also I don't mind my job perse but I really can't stand some of the people I have to work with. so that makes a big difference.

are you unreplaceable at this point? If so I'd work on a pitch to your boss for a raise.

Yes I am as I can do everything we do and no one else not even the guy who started/owns the company knows it all.

Already have pitched raises to the boss for me and him as he works as much or more than I do and only earns a little more than me. Performance reviews are supposedly this month so we'll see if a raise comes through or not, if not I may be seeking new employment.
