getting a prescription overseas

New member
I dont know if this violates the TOS, but i am wondering about this.

I think dieting is fucking up my thyroid. i have several symptoms. Most overseas pharmacies say things like 'online consultation' to get a prescription, which makes it legal. Since i have many of the symptoms of hypothyroidism, i was thinking of trying this out so i can get some cytomel. has anyone done anything like this, and did it work?

the reason i dont go to a normal doc to try to get some thyroid hormone is because all the info i read on hypothyroidism says most docs do not offer any quality help because they used outdated methods of detecting it by looking at plasma T4 levels.

I would at least try with a regular medical doc. maybe even have him refer you to a specialist. In the long run it could be cheaper.

What is with your diet that is fucking up your thyroid? are you seriously restricting calories or something?

the script isnt neccessarily valid, and there are usually rules/regulations about importing drugs. basically they clog the process to hell with red tape so you dont bother

the truth is that pituitary function is guaged by blood levels of t3/t4. if youre within the normal range, youre not sick. end of story. therefore, youll have to get your t3 illicitly. thats the medical viewpoint anyway

i dont know, but when i diet this starts happening. My body temp drops about 0.5-1.5 degrees and i get fatigue. My calories are at 2800 a day, maintenance is 4000 a day.

It might not be thyroid, but i figure its worth experimenting with. If thyroid meds make me back to normal its thyroid. if not, then not.

If ooooooooooooooonly there was a pharmacist in another country i could trust.

?????

TSH vs T3 test, or another alternative method is by examining THBR: T3 resin uptake ratio; another practice calls for TRH injectin and monitoring TSH levels but this is an older practice, however effective nonetheless.
where did you hear about the T4 plasma levels as indicator of hypothyroidism? don't self-administer synth thyroid hormones - docs are much more apt than thought of on these boards :o

is it a particular diet you're doing? like no carb/low carb, or 40/30/30? are you dropping your cals for long periods of time? Can you provide specifics?

Hmm, you sound knowledgable. But most of the info i've read says doctors just test blood levels of T4, and that a more reliable testing method is to look for symptoms and a lower body temperature when you wake up.

Why not self administer? I am not going to megadose anything.

i would say youre dropping your cals too much, hence the temp drop. try eating a little bit more, and youll start to lose fat

there was a great study on this i read a couple years ago, i wanted to reread the bloody thing but i cant find it

it seems paradoxical but you have to eat a little bit more to lose weight.

also, i think dan duchaine wrote something on it which was in line with the study i read.....taek a quick lookie for it

Yeah i know. i was cut down to 2400 a day, and eating meals that were about 400 calories each. However when i upped calories to about 2900 a day and meals to 600 a day things got a little better. Sadly, i may have to go to 3400 a day or so, but that doesn't sound like much of a diet i think.

nord,
try alternating your calories each day. 2900, 3400, 4000, 3400, 2900, 3400, etc. You'll still be cutting calories and keeping your metabolism from totally crashing. you might not get the dramatic loss of weight you desire, but you'll still get results provided you're eating clean.

600 cal deficit is over a pound a week. With extra cardio, =2 pounds. That should be your goal anyway... 2 pounds/week.

Why such a calorie deficit - you're simply starving yourself (shooting for anorexia??). Without going into details of your specifc micronutrient ratios, restrict cals to 400-600 at max below maintenance and do some cardio+weightlifting - that alone will optimize your metabolic energy repartitioning. Include some nutraceuticals to further enhance metabolic expenditure.
There is no reason for you to use T3 - you're not hypothyroidic, you're depleted :o

what? everyone doesn't use synthroid.com? I think that's the url.

Get this book:

Wilson's Thyroid Syndrome: A Reversible Thyroid Problem

by E. Denis Wilson, E. Denis Wilson MD is the book that I was talking about.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/A...45281/sr=11-1/ref=sr_11_1/002-0039699-9908019

Amazing book. Amazing being the ONE chapter that deals with individuals analyzing and treating and knowing about their individual thyroid levels, etc. And how to treat yourself and take in the right medication.

Buy and read it. Very good read.

That is more or less what im doing. Last year i lost a good deal of weight at 2800 calories a day, and i lost about 2-2.5 lbs a week. This time however im on a bunch of drugs, so that may be increasing my metabolism so i may have to increase calories to keep up with the metabolic boost.
