getting a haricut in 2 weeks, need big help

I have thick somewhat curly hair. Under 1.5-2 inches the top will stay perfectly straight. Right now its light blonde and about 3 and a quarter inches. Im gonig to a stylist in 2 weeks to get something done, but have no idea what. Need some help. I wanted to grow it long but it is becoming unmanigable because of its thickness. It likes to fro out, wont stay down. I have some events comnig up shortly and want to look good, that and just for everyday wear so i dont have to wear a hat everywhere i go. I dress in jeans and a t-shirt basically, i go with the 3 day shave look. I need some ideas on what to do, descripitons, pics, anything to help me. If anyone knows good websites with lots of pics that would be great.

first off, no bleach. Go to a good cosmetologist, she/he will be able to cut your hair so that it will grow out and lay right.
