George Foreman grill... worth it?

LosinWeight

New member
Is the George Foreman grill worth it? I am trying to lose weight (fat) and build muscle (lower priority than burning fat).

I dont have time to bake chicken and get all the dishes dirty etc.

I have heard the George Foreman grill is great for chicken, hamburgers, etc.

Anyone have any thoughts on what foods are good with it and how healthy they are? Thanks!

I just went out and bought one and cooked some steak with onions and green peppers. The best meal I've ever cooked myself! (Thats not saying much)

I have one and I love it. But I'm overly cautious about undercooking my chicken, so it's usually a little dry and takes longer to eat. Not to mention it's boring eating dry chicken. I've been boiling my chicken lately and I like it better that way. It's a lot more moist.

Love mine but, hate to clean it. Surgical, use a meat thermometer 180 deg. and its done about 10 min. When you remove any meat from the grill, wrap in tin foil for 5 min. Will be the moistest meat ever.

I learned a little trick....

Take your defrosted chicken breast and cut a couple of slits in the top. (Not all the way through).

Put whatever seasonings on it (me...onion powder and black pepper) and dribble some olive oil on it and rub it in a little.

Grill it for 6 minutes and its juicy as hell.....no more dry chicken.

Yes, its wortht he investment....

I don't understand the hard to clean issue....

After cooking, take a few paper towels, wipe the grooves out....

Yup. Poaching chicken - say, in chicken stock - will keep it incredibly moist and tender.

Thanks for the tips Zebo and Mydillyo. I'll have to try those. It will be nice to try something new. I get in a rut of fixing the same things the same way all of the time. I guess I'm not very creative when it comes to food.

re: grill

Loved it when 1st bought it! Chicken just too dry not to mention pain in the but to clean....
I now cook my ckicken in a frying pan with olive oil, squeeze a lemmon on it, add some pepper...
Yum Yum!

cleaning the foreman ...

Yah they are a pain in the ass, i saw once some sized grill scrapers for them ... but if you dont have a teflon sage bbq brush hand, just use a toothbrush ... so far it seems to work well , and if yer like me and dont get at it while its still warm, plug it in for a few then go at it ... the toothbrush works great at getting all that shit out

My Kingdom for an immersible foreman!!!

You here me george???

i got the foreman and at first it was great but now after trying a few different recipes I don't think so. I agree with jerry's chicken cooking method. CHicken goes really well with olive oil, lemon and pepper. Also, chicken, olive oil, and oregano or italian seasonings ...then put the strips into your favorite spaghetti dish....great for after workouts. lotsa recipes out their.

Also guys try and spraying it with Pam.
And clean while still a little warm with a paper towel.

This may help..

My Bride loves to use the grill. In the Summer it's the Weber.
In the Winter it's George. I think the easy clean up is the reason.

Best $20 I ever spent. And as for cleaning... it is simple and easy... I unplug it and throw it in the sink and use the hose (whatever it's called) and spray it down and then wipe it off when I am done eating. I don't want to hear anyone saying it is dangerous because I've had the thing for over a year. Just make sure you unplug it :p

Peace

Clean when hot!!

As soon as your done (while your chicken is in the foil:p ) Wet a few paper towels and wipe.

If you wait till after you eat, its a pain in the ass.

I've had a basic Forman grill for years, just got a Forman Fussion Grill a few months ago. I love it even more. Easier to clean, cooks nice and fat free, and keeps my chicken breasts soooo moist. Also cooks some great vegies tossed right in with the chicken.

AFTER YOU REMOVE YOUR FOOD.

Take some wet paper towels and lay them on the grill and close it

The steam will keep the remains moist, after you finish eating

wipe it down with a dry paper towel. very simple and easy clean up.

Heres a solution to the George Foreman grill problem... go and buy a Hamilton Beach Mealmaker Express (indoor grill) its the best one out there and is easy to clean you just remove the whole grill plates and throw them in the dishwasher

It'd be nice if they made removable grill plates... that wouldn't be difficult. Maybe George will take a hint.

I have an "off-brand" grill...I think it is a windmere and the plates do come out AND they are dishwasher safe!

The grill is the bomb and not hard to clean i dont clean mine to the next day then just wipe it with a paper towel

Do any of you have any problems with your chicken (or any meat that you cook on it for that matter) getting like tough on the outside? It seems like my chicken breasts get really tough and if I take them off before they get tough, then the inside isn't done. I have the really big grill, but it's not the one with the heat settings. Any ideas as to how to prevent this from happening. I've tried spraying the girll with Pam before cooking, too, but that didn't help...

Thanks!!

I think the solution for cleaning is timing and consistancy....

If possibly....clean right after the thing has cooled down...don't wait till is hard, dry and crusty....

I usually just use a paper towel.....

grilled cheese is an easy fix. try it sparingly. I agree with others, cleaning it sux. I have a system so it only takes a few minutes.

for chicken i defrost them then coo,k them for 9 1/2 minutes...never dry always juicy...may have to cook it longer if its large chicken

When my kids do bad in school i fire up the foreman grill and hold their hands down on it for 2 minutes.Best thing I ever bought.

Best cooking appliance next to my small oven toaster and stick blender! Chicken and sirloin sometimes come out a little dry, but hey I don't mind. I like the crunchiness of the chicken.
