Gay opinion towards connotations of the word 'gay'

So the word "gay" is used on the net and around me often in real life with somewhat humorous and somewhat negative connotations ... with the versatility of other words like 'fuck'

Example:

"This situation is gay" (lame, sucks, not preferable)

"You're gay" (lame, homosexual, stupid)

"This thread is geigh"

etc.. etc...


I'm curious as to how the members who are actually gay here react to this, as I imagine the adoption of the term gay in way that it is used may make things difficult for them and the efforts to be better accepted

However, on an upside it is also used in a negative but humorously negative way, and its use increases familiarity with the idea of being gay which can be helpful as well

I was working the back stret boys concert.. and one of the guys was makin fun of Boston accents and goes.. "hey Kevin, your so freakin retahhded", and there was a special girl in the front row... she didn;t know what was going on, but i still kinda felt bad...

any ways... i know a lot of gay guys, and I still use the word gay in front of them because it doesn't bother them, but if it did, i wouldn't use it.

She's from England! Can't remember her name. She is like 21 or something too. Gay or not... she is hot.
*I'm not gay so I don't know if my opinion matters but it would seem to me it would be the perceived intentions of the person saying it as to how it would be received.
