Apparently he put his hand between his legs so his blood ran into the toilet, and it was too late by the time they realized something was up. Keep in mind, this is what I was told by another recruit. In boot camp, they can tell you that the sky is purple and damn if it doesn't start to look like it after a while.

Are you proud of yourself? Karma
There were a few others that tried to commit suicide (allegedly) or who had ideations. They went home too.biteme said:
That's sad.

why go through all that trouble? didn't he have access to knives and GUNS?
why do they watch recruits so closely like that? sounds like he had to be sneaky about it.
You have a gun most of the time. For a few weeks you actually have ammo it is pretty tightly accounted for. If one round goes missing, there is a huge formation and shit is searched. No knives at all in boot camp.AAP said:

They are trying to get Irmey to be the guest speaker at a mess night here on the base where I live and work. The reason he is as respected as he is, he was a real Marine gunnery sergeant. Not just an actor.PBR said:its all about mind programming...the brain is just like a computer, and when its called upon it recalls information that has been instilled (loaded/programmed)....in extreme stress you have two human responses: flight or fight...just like animals...the training teaches the brain to fight and go against "flight"...there is a line Hartman said in the movie" if you hesitate at the moment of truth, you will be in a world of shit, and then you will be dead...and marines are not allowed to die without permission".... not everyone is born to kill and some cannot be taught to either...Lee Ermy is a very cool guy (actor) and he is worshiped around the world by the troops and has Carte Blanc wherever he goes....

onerepmaximum said:The only time I remember that being asked was when they made dog tags. Not really a very big deal. I know that a lot of people found religion (for at least 12 weeks) during that time.
