FRUCTOSE = NO good found ARTICLE 4 U ALL

FROM the NEw Muscle MAX by John Parrillo

1. Fructose is readily converted to Bodyfat - This is explained how the molecular structure is easily converted by the liver into Triglycerides.

2. Fructose Causes you to absorb fat during meals. This is a no brainer a ton of Carbs Mixed with fats. You know whats gonna happen.

3. Fructose doesnt effecintely restock Muscle Glycogen. It restores liver Glygo that is it.

4. Can Lead to Insulin Resistance.

Im not saying fruit is bad, nor does this article. But Eat a ton of veggies, and fruit rarely and watch what happens to your body.

Instead of fruit post workout I eat a Packet of Sweet tarts, Malodextrin and Dextrose, Great simple sugars to create an Insulin spike, fill muscle glycogen, and transport SUpplements.

This was for people looking for another EDGE>

never heard about it but sounds bad

I have not scoured the literature on this specific topic, so I may be outdated, but there are problems with these assertions.

1. Fructose is metabolized in the liver before if enters into circulation. Enzymes responsible for the conversion of fructose into glucose-1-phosphate are limited, so the rate of conversion can be "backed-up" if a large amount of fructose is ingested at one meal or too frequently. If this happens, then enzymes responsible for the conversion of fructose into triglycerides take up the excess fructose.

Essentially, triglyceride formation does not occur with the ingestion of an orange or apple, but with several, or with the chronic ingestion of high-fructose sweetened beverages.

2. I am not sure about this idea that fructose causes fat to be absorbed, since I do not know why fat WOULD NOT be absorbed if it were present in the GI. There are few inhibitors of fatty acid absorption, such as fibers, Olestra, Xenical, certain chemicals, etc. These are not commonly present, so fatty acid absorption should not be hindered.

3. Fructose DOES replenish hepatic glycogen stores preferentially, due to its conversion into glucose-1-phosphate. Glucose-6-phosphate is prefered by skeletal muscles.

4. Fructose CAN lead to insulin resistance by mechanism #1. So as long as one does not eat a bushel of fruit at a sitting, I doubt this is a problem.

T-Mag had an article on this topic awhile back, which looked at these aspects of fructose, it can be easily found by doing a search. Unfortunately, Parrilo has never been that great of a nutritionist.

Yeah, cockdez's summary pretty much echos my understanding on the topic. I think that fructose in moderation is fine and good. I don't believe for one moment that fruit makes you fat! But excess of high fructose corn syrup, or eating a fruit and cheese platter at the end of a carb and fat dense meal at bedtime is a truly bad idea. It's this aspect of fructose (along with the general excess calories that westerners eat) that no doubt leads to insulin resistance and obesity.

However, I don't eat fruit because I don't have a sweet tooth. If I want carbs in my diet I would rather have some pasta, rice spuds or beans. If I want lots of natural vitamins, fiber and phytonutrients then I'll eat a mound of fibrous veggeis.
