From Natural to Show Standard?

I have been off juice now for a few months and intend staying off until the middle of next year for a number of reasons which I'll explain at a later date. I still have a decent physique while off. I am currently 26 Years old, 13% Body Fat, in good natural shape, and Approx 175 Pounds.

One thing I would love to do before I get over the hill is to do a BB show. Even if I only went up and did a good show and gave a good account of myself I'd be elated. I know it takes the top guys years to put a winning physique together, but how long would it take a guy to put together a physique good enough to get up on stage at all?

If so, am looking at 1G Test cycles, but will obviously plan out....

It depends on the show and what you consider a "good showing" How tall are you first off. At 175 and 13% you'd probably need to get down to below 160 to be lean enough to avoid getting creamed. If you're 5'4 you'd look phenominel, if you're 5'8 youd look too small and if you're 6" you're going to get laughed out of there. The key is to be big and ripped. I am 5'8 and 190 @9% bf. To the average joe I am freaky mostly because I am very vascular and look bigger than 190 and leaner than 9%. But I would not even think about doing a show w/o another 15lbs of muscle. I would need to come in at 190 and 5% to have even a chance at a good local show. That was long winded and in answer to your question you need to get big, then get really big, then get lean, then get REALLY lean! Go to a show and check out what the competitors look like then assess if you have the comittment to get there. It is much harder than it looks bro, believe me! And I don't think anyone NEEDS 1gram of test per week unless you are a national caliber bber or just like having that test overload feeling.

Yeah we need more info on you..Blue is right..what is your height because that is huge.

encouraging responses already. I come in at exactly 5'8. In terms of having the commitment, definitely. I know what you are saying about getting big as hell and then lean as hell. Seen a few guys in my old gym training like that. You could see the difference literally week by week. I remember not seeing one guy for about 3 months as he was away. When he came back he was super lean. My first responce to him was "Hey, you used to be a fat fucker"!! My new gym has some great BB's too. Even at local level, I would be very interested. Would it take 12 months, 18 months, or how long?

I'm 5'10" 220lbs and 10%BF, I would not yet be ready for a show in my small hick town. P.S. I am short of 40, and would do maters class competition. I need to be 240 and ripped at my height and age not to be embarassed. I was hoping this spring, but I think it won't be till spring 2006 now. Since you are under 30, you need to up all those stats, since you are not competing with sorry old men like me :) You sound like you need many years of hard work, and frankly, steroids are not a big part of the picture at your stats, unless you just want to hurt yourself. I still use 400 ew deca, would not think of doses like you suggest at my weight. In fact, what didn't hurt you would simply be excreted into the toilet anyway. You need years of natural work, bro, unless you are 5'2" or less. I was 180 when I finished high school, and I am a totally average dude. You can't do a show at 175, unless you're cute and it's a modeling show. But not bodybuilding. Save the steroids until you are closer to 200.

I know a kid that was 5'8 and competed at 170lbs and natural. He looked small as hell, but I guess he managed to win some spots. I think he is around 24yrs old.

I was converting my weight in KG to pounds. Am actually in at 181pounds by the internet converter, so change it abit. Still, am keen to find out if it is possible to be competitive at some stage, or just stick to enjoying my training?

I think you should give it a try. Sounds like you have the mental side down. Get in your best shape and give it a try.

I am pushing 36yo and fight in full contact ufc type competitions. The kids kick my ass sometimes and others age and treachery wins out.

I guess what I’m saying is you cant always be the best but if you do your best its just as good.

Good luck
