From a Teacher...

b fold the truth

My mother wrote this today...and is giving it to her teacher's aid. It really touched me. My mother has taught K-1 for the past 32 years and plans to teach 2 more...

---------------

Never strive to be the best teacher, because you will lose the focus on the real picture. Strive to be small and humble. In that humility, you will be able to see the needs of the smallest child.

Never lose your sense of humor. Remember to laugh because when children see that you are having fun, they will share your joy of life. Your smile could be the only one they get to see that day. Past students have come back to tell me "you were always my favorite teacher, you were so funny!" What a compliment!!!

Never feel that you have learned everything. Keep an open mind to the ideas of others. Listen to your children, they will tell you what they want and need.

Never get so caught up in planning an activity that you forget to be spontaneous. You can project any idea in five minutes that means something to a child and he will retain that for a lifetime. You can work for hours on something you deem important that means nothing to your children and they will forget it tomorrow.

Never feel that you can be everything to everybody, but be something to somebody. When you end your day, think about what you have done and everything that you could have done during those few hours and be excited about what you can do tomorrow to make it better. Never be satisfied but be content with yourself. Love yourself and it is easier to love others.

Never lose your love for teaching. It is the most difficult and rewarding job a person could have. I highly reccomend it. It only takes one child to say "I love you" and it is all worth it.

Never forget that you are the future of our children, I am the present and the past. I gladly pass the torch on to you. If you don't remember anything I say to you, remember to have fun. Teaching is supposed to be fun.

Humility, sense of humor, open mindedness, spontenuity, contentment, and love of self and others are the traits of a happy teacher. A happy teacher is a successful teacher. That is what I wish for you...

Wow, that is touching. Your Mom's got heart bro, we need more teachers like her in school systems.

Well, well, well. Now we know where you get your kindness from. Alot of what Mom said can be applied to all areas of everyone's lives.

Great post Bro! My GF is also a teacher. She teaches special needs children in a public school. It can be a very stressfull job & takes a special person to be a teacher. Sounds like your mom has a heart of gold, you are fortunate to have been raised by someone so caring. I'm going to pass this on to my GF so she can show all the other teachers.

Green for you!

32 years!!!! Schools definitely need more like her!

Yes, I can see how you got your kindness, patience, dedication, virtue, and all that good stuff. :)

Major Props to your Mom! I intend to teach HS Math/Coach football after retiring from the Army so it's good to hear from someone who knows about the profession!
