Free trade with Mexico

The US is proposing a "Free-trade" system with Canada and Mexico. They are trying to work the kinks out of it and trying to achieve it by 2008 (i might be wrong about the year). Does this mean that steroids and other medications that are illegal or hard to get in the states going to be legal for us to get or are there still going to be customs checking your stuff when you cross the boarder?

Free trade is simply the elimination of all tarrifs on the import or export of goods and services. There will be no changes in the legal or illegal aspects of goods and services in relationship to the excise taxes (tarrrifs) that will go away.

Why do people always bash free trade? It is what made the rich countries , including the US, rich.
At least, that´s what i´m thinking.
