? for those of ya'll with kids/nephews......

my sister's boy and I have always been close....his father, although a good man and provider, is a rather cold natured, impatient, perfectionist man....not good with children. in many ways i am his surrogate dad.

he and I always hug when greeting. usually he is the first one to do so. although he doesn't know it, he is the sole beneficiary of the Rnch Ramada's will and trust fund.

he's 14 now, and showing no sign of stopping this habit.

how long do ya'll think it will last?

(i am not complaining, just wondering......)

Is it a quick broly style hug or a drawn out grinding one ?

I still hug male family sometimes with a quick broly hug..
Kissing them is verboten..

I wish the men in my family would hug.. my dad and brothers, even on their birthdays, shake hands. So silly, HUG for heavens sakes, you big doofuses!!!!!!

i do that ghetto hug where you shake their hand first and them tap them on the back with friends i havent seen in awhile. aslong as he is not grabbing your ass i dont see what the problem is.

Our family in general is like this... we hug/kiss etc... as for the men, they shake hands & they hug if it has been a while since they last seen each other. I don't see nothing wrong with it.
Hey everyone... how 'bout a group hug?! :qt:

The guys in our family shake hands, the only men I hug are my nephews.

Gotta get used to the change marrying into an Italian family. Its hugs galore LOL

Big mistake is to shake hands and hold while attempting a hug..

The grasped hands can end up smashed in your crotches on the hug and it
can send the wrong message.

well, i suspected i would get some flaming for posting such a male-verboten topic....a violation of the "guy code".....

my nephew is showing all the normal interest in girls a fourteen year old should, so i doubt there is any sexual issues involved.

i'm just pleased and flattered that he is still doing it.

what with the Italian/French/alternate life style influences here, perhaps nawlinz is more open and affectionate than the rest of the country.

You say he does this everytime you guys greet one another. Does this mean 100% of the time whether you are around his immediate family, friends, or anywhere else or simply when its a situation where you and him are alone?

What type of child is he? He is shy? Outgoing? Does he have a lot of friends? Is he more of a lonesome type? Quiet? Has his hugging style changed in the least bit at all since he's turned into a teenager? For example, in the pre-teen years did he run towards you screaming "Uncle!" and wrap his arms around you tightly whereas now he walks towards you in a normal walking pace and says "Hi Uncle rnch!" and gives you a short hug?

For you and your nephew, it should last forever, I hope.

When I see my brother I hug him like I need a bag of bone meal to bake bread. I guess it depends on distance. I never really get to see my family but once every year or two. (it's about $5500 to get my brood to the states when all is said and done, that's a tough nut to swallow for the weekend).

I hug my nephews and niece, but they are weird about it. Sisters husband meets your 'not exactly the warmest dude' description, as does his whole family, texas money and pretty uptight about men touching men anywhere but the wrist down , so they don't really get it, my brothers kids are better, and kind of look forward to Uncle Chefs famous bearhugathon.

My kids? family hugs usually end up in a hogpile on the grass, and my inlaw family are all euros so there is hugging and kissing like it's a greek play.

I live in a populated French Catholic area and people are not friendly here. In fact, we have Festivus every year. Last year I cracked Aunt S upside the head because she was talking to herself.

Be glad people in your family even want to be near each other....watah boy!

I hope it lasts. There is something that can be so wonderful about a simple hug. Like you said, you're a pseudo dad for him, so he feels a closeness with you and this is his way of showing it. It's a great thing. I'd love to see the male members of my family be more open to showing this kind of emotion.

Well I'm sure I'll get to hear about this from some of you peckerheads for a long time but I still give my dad a hug and a kiss. I just always have. I don't get to see him very often (like 3 times a year) and you never know if it's gonna be the last time or not. That's my dad, I never want to have to look back and wonder if he knew how much be meant to me.

Thats cool bro, nothing wrong with that, everyone has their own way of expressing it.

Im first generation here from Europe, so not only hugs, but a kiss on the cheek is expected.

I actually never realized until reading this thread that it was an issue with some people

pehaps it's the Italian and alternate life stylers that make new orleans such a friendly city then!
