Reading about this technology at
www.hairscwitch.com is interesting to me because it sounds similar to something I heard about on the news 4 years ago. The segment on the news was about a virus that carried a gene into the hair follicles in the scalp that caused hair to regrow anywhere, and it worked. The only problem was that the virus that they used to carry the gene was causing cancer in the rats. They said there was a way around this and it was expected to hit the market in around 5 years.
On the website you can read this
"The need for Non-viral Vectors in Gene delivery
Non-viral vectors for functional gene delivery, incorporating the SeaGulls technology, were developed because viral vector methods of addition were found occasionally to produce drastically undesirable side effects including inflammatory immune reactions and neoplastic transformation due to viral integration into the host genome.
The advantages of using SeaGulls for gene transfer are safe repeatable dosing, reduced risk of integration into patient DNA (a common problem among viral vectors that led to the development of non-viral vectors)"
So it seems that this was the way around the viral method of gene delivery. I saw pics on the news segment 4 years ago, and it works.
