For a good parallel to the modern US

Read the story in Genesis about the Tower of Babel. (you don't have to be a bible thumper or believe in God to read this)

The short of it is this:

The people of the world spoke one language and there was nothing they couldn't do. So they decided to build a tower to heaven to touch god or some shit like that. Anyway, god saw what they were able to accomplish speaking one laguage and that they were building a tower reach him and that they would complete it.

So, god confounded them so that the different peoples could no longer understand one another. They never completed the tower and could no longer accomplish great things because no one spoke the same language any more.

Now, what is the US doing or should I say the fembots from liberal hell! And the dickless males of the liberal society.

We have a national voter approved language (vote happened over 200 years ago at the founding of the country) We are told we have to have everything printed in multiple languages, that it is wrong to speak english as our national language, the phone systems, etc all make you choose between english and spanish. It is a requirement to get your citizenship to read, write and speak english. It is required to know US history and the Constitution or what is left of those things. Before long these will not be a requirement.

See the parallel's? I am sure some won't but then they have been confounded already by the man.

You must remember that hispanics are the #1 minority group in America and growing fast.

Companies are smart enough to realize that the spanish speaking people of the US are a clear market segmentation and they deliver to them.

This is especially true in places where there is a significant hispanic (or spanish speaking) population.

California, Florida, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, etc.

English is considered the world over standard for communication and is required in almost every country except for Quebec, Canada and the US (joke not inferred)

So why is it considered the standard for business and science in the world, but not in the country where it is the official language.

I have no problem with you speaking another language, but if you want to live here, be a citizen of this country, conduct business here, go to school here, teach here, etc. Learn the fucking language.

I had to call the help desk a while back for my computer and got some South Vietnamese lady who couldn't form a complete sentence in english let alone pronounce to recognizable words. And this person was supposed to help me with my technical issues! Give me a break!

In the world, they are very much indeed rebuilding a Tower of Babel. For all the "foreign language" crap schools push on our kids, EVERY NATION makes their people learn English as a second language. Any international business is often done in English....or at least is capable of being done in English.

Add to that the effort to form global political, religious, and economic structures, and it's really the Bible repeating itself.

Geez. Americans are infamous for having the world's least facility with other languages. We are famous for populating other countries through globalization or just traveling and having practically no facility with the language of our hosts. Does this mean, Chesty, if you are an American soldier stationed in Germany, you should be required to speak German-- and not expect the locals to make any effort to translate their language into English when you have to interact with them? Or do you just presume that because English is so broadly spoken around the world that people owe you conversation in your own language?

I don't care who my kids date, and I don't care what language they speak. But if they want to live in my country and are citizens or want to become citizens they will speak english. It is that simple. It is our national language.

As for being a soldier in Germany, no I would not expect them to talk to me in English. I was sent there by my gov't to a military base that they allow to exist there for whatever reason.

I was in Okinawa and did not expect the locals to speak english. However, I took it upon my self to learn enough Japenese/Okinawan to get around for the year I was there. And in fact, almost all of the people I met preferred to talk to me in english, but were pleased that I tried to learn their language.

I think it's probably true that the average immigrant to the US knows as much English as you know Japanese. There is a continual flow of immigrants into this country. They can't all arrive speaking English. Most DO learn the language after a few years unless they live in communities where it's unnecessary.

So, there are only 2 languages here in the US. Spanish & English. Its not like there are 40-50 langauges.

Not only that, but most first world countries have multiple languages. They aren't failing. Here in the US, as long as you aren't in a border state or florida, you can get by fine on just english.

In 15 years electronic verbal translators will be mass marketed, and it won't really matter anymore if there are language barriers.

The whole point of this thread was to point out a parallel between a 2,000 year old story and the modern US. But some wanted to start the insults.
And by the way, I did not refer to the hispanics as rats, I referred to illegal immigrants, that is pretty much the whole group of races in the world, whether they are white, black, oriental, asian, hispanic english, etc.
