Food b4 workout or NO?? re:bfl

Ok, everyone here recommends to eat or consume something before working out. I don't even know what you would consume preworkout, as haven't been paying attention.

Plus, I am trying to follow BFL guidelines (wk 4 right now) and have to loose 12-14 more pounds too :( .

Here is a quote from the book (not arguing, just trying to convince myself which way since it seems BFL is the only one to say no food b4 workout , not just b4 cardio).

quote from pg 125 answering the same question, "Should I eat something b4 I workout, like an energy bar?"

Mr BFL responds: "It depends on what your goal is. If your only concern is athletic preformance, you should consume carbs like energy bars and/or sports drinks, b4, during, and after you engage in physical activity.
However, if your goal is to lose fat (THAT"s my first goal ) and gain muscle (sec goal :D), I do not recommend eating before you work out. This is a mistake a lot of people make. If you supply the body with carbs to us as fuel when excercising, it will prevent fat burning and preserve body-fat store. A recent study confirmed that if you keep taking in carbs, your body will burn carbs. Cut back on the carbs, and your body will burn fat more readily and quickly. That's why I recommend, for maximum fat-burning effect, you excercise on an EMPTY STOMACH.".

So, what do you think? Is he full of shit, and I should consume something b4 working out or does he have a point? Honestly, it would be easier for me to consume something b4 working out, that way I would have more calories/carbs/prot to add to my daily intake.

Soo...... tell me yout thoughts.
thanks

I would have to agree... if your primary goal is weight loss, then this would ensure more fat burning. However it is such an individual thing... more advanced BB'ers may have a hard time keeping intensity up without some pre-work out cals.

Diamond , if I go your route of eating high protein 1 hr prior to workout, where will I be burning calories from while I work? WIll I still burn fat or since I will be using the new protein taken an hour before be what's burning.

I don't want to end these 12 wks with muscle but still 10-12 pounds of fat in my stomach :(.

I am going to start taking creatine next wk when it gets here, btw. So don't know if that will skew your answer.

Atleast we all seem to agree that on cardio days, eat on an empty stomach.

thanks

the object of lifting is to add muscle, not burn fat-the fat burning comes from the fact that the more muscle you have, the easier it is to burn fat-for that reason, you need the protein for your muscles while you lift
