Flax and Fish Oil?

Def Lep

New member
I currently take 1000mg of Fish Oil, and 1000mg Flax Oil. Is this unneccessary considering they are both rich in Omege-3??? Or does it even matter?

Anyone???!! Please???

Keep the fish oil and get rid of the flax. Lifter brought up a bunch of studies showing Flax lowering testosterone levels quite significantly. Fish oils, Olive oil and walnuts are my main sources of EFA's now.

Right on the money.

If you can find them: greenland shark oil or 'Thorsk Lysi' (icelandic cod oil)

Walnuts are a godsend for the need to add both EFAs and mouth-feel to oatmeal. SteelCut oats with some ground cinnamon, vanilla paste, splenda and walnut pieces ROCK.

When I took Fish Oil I had nast fish breath and burped it up alot. So I went to flax, olive oil and soybeans.

If I take it in the morning fish oil doesn't sit well with me either. I still take 1 capsule at night.

I usually keep hempoil in the house and EVOO in the house at all times.

I go out of my way to avoid soy.

I have really shitty cholesterol (genetic) I freaking refuse to take drugs for it, they'll probably kill me before heart disease will  so I really want to maintain good ratios.

Try enteric coated fish oil. Will completely eliminate the "burps". What is happening is the fish oil is starting to dissolve by the stomach acid before hitting the intestines.

Which is better for women Flax or Fish oil?

Aside from the lowered test in males side effect, for women it's probably best to get a combination of all kinds if possible. I'm always going for fish, olive and nut oil over anything else but there's evidence to support that they all have possible preventative treatments for various conditions:

Olive Oil:

Olive oil may actually prevent cancer, according to a study released earlier this year. The study showed that oleic acid, the main monounsaturated fatty acid in olive oil, can cripple a cancer gene responsible for 25 to 30 percent of all breast cancers. The study found that oleic acid not only suppressed the levels of the gene, called Her-2/neu, but also improved the efficiency of the drug trastuzumab (sold under the brand name Herceptin), which is used to treat many women with breast cancer. Other studies have found that olive oil has a favorable effect on both ovarian cancer and bowel cancer. In addition, olive oil is well tolerated by the stomach. It appears to prevent the formation of gallstones as well as have a therapeutic effect on ulcers.

Flax:

Goss presented his research team's finding in January at an international breast cancer conference in San Antonio, Tex. The study involved 50 women who had been recently diagnosed with breast cancer. While waiting for their surgery, the women were divided into two groups. One group received a daily muffin containing 50 grams of ground flaxseed, about 30 milliliters (two tablespoons). The others were prescribed ordinary muffins.

When their tumors were removed - usually within 40 days of diagnosis - the researchers examined them for signs of how fast the cancer cells had been growing. It turned out that the women receiving the flaxseed muffins had slower-growing tumors than the others.

Fish Oil:

One exciting aspect of fish oil is its significant inhibitory effects against various human cancers in animal models, including breast cancer, colon cancer, skin cancer, pancreatic cancer, prostatic cancer, lung cancer, larynx cancer, etc. Unlike fish oilwhich is high in omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acidsfats that are high in omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (like corn oil) can increase tumor growth. Using a chemical carcinogen-induced cancer model, researchers found that a high intake of fish oil significantly lowered the cancer incidence in animal studies as compared to animals fed either low fat diets or high corn oil diets. By implanting human tumors into immune-deficient mice, researchers have found that a high fish oil diet can slow tumor growth. These results suggest that fish oil can be used for both prevention and treatment of cancer.

This is a good post - something should be done so all can easily access it. Add it to a sticky?
