Flashbacks....anybody ever have them?

Like a certain smell or sound will take you back.....:(....and also, do you have nightmares frequently? I woke up once choking out my girl; apparently, she came to give me a kiss goodnight, and I jumped out of bed and grabbed her by her neck and threw her against the wall. I've got a few more stories as well......

It really freaked me out.....I could have easily snapped her neck if I wouldn't have came to....

dude

whats up bro. long time no talk. Anyways, the true theory on this is that when you sleep your mind filters all the needless information its thought about or seen and sometimes the memorie flys out so fast that the events get mixed in. This is why a flushed memorie is sometimes triggered by a smell, sight ect....Also, in your dreams, the person that you think is you is really always someone else. You dont realize it because your looking through their eyes, but it is impossible to have a dream that the actual you is involved in something. crazy huh....have you ever been to Lake Havasu for spring break? Was it any good?

This happens to me a lot. Certain songs I hear take me back to high school and college and I can remember EXACTLY what I was doing and where I was. I listen to an 80s station sometimes and I heard "Hungry Like the Wolf" by Duran Duran the other day. I was taken back to a particular moment when I was in college. I could remember the car I drove then, how I felt about school, life and women, and how I wondered about my future. Very sweet.

Certain smells have the same affect on me. My daughter attended a basketball camp at my alma mater, the Univ of Texas last summer. When I dropped her off at the dorm, the smell in the lobby was the same as it was when I lived there. Of course it resulted in her having to hear one of my many stories...

WZUP homie? Where da fuck you been? Lake Havasu is pretty damn tight...usually gots lots of women.

I get these everynow and then, but I attribute it to the variety of pschotropic / active drugs that I experimented with.

In 1989 I was told I was suffering PTSD after a particularly bad mission to the middle east in which we lost five comrades out of our unit of 120 men. I never followed the treatment up however, a foolish move !.
I could frighten you with some of my nightmares for at least 2 years after that mission.

I am having one now.... Gypsum, Colorado and some really good micro-dots.

Eveytime I smell fresh-cut grass, my mind goes back to 2-a-days in high school football.

And everytime I hear the band play at a game or on TV, I think of what it was like to walk out on the field while the drums beat.

Damn I miss it.

that totally happens to me a lot buck...

sometimes i get smells that really aren't there that i suddenly can smell too... no one else that i know has had this happen

Buck, I was diagnosed as having PTSD after my wife died. It may be good for you to do a phone chat with somebody who has had the experience. If you want, PM me your phone number.

having done acid around 5-6 times in my life, whenever i want to, i can focus on the carpet and it will start to swim. it's an excellent ability to have when you are bored in meetings at work.

ummm did that excuse work with the cops and the judge?:D

btw, havoc, you should sharpen your ninja skills because it would be a shame if the board lost you because Buck did the same thing to you while you were trying to give him a good night kiss.

Me too. Those were the days. I can't wait for my boys to get older so I can live vicariously through them.

Make that three. The good old days.:bawling:

Great, now I have that Madonna song, "This used to be my playground, this used to be my childhood dreams," running through my head.

It's the five hits at a time that does the damage. I'm with you.

kindof.

supposedly adrenaline inhibitors taken directly after a traumatic event will prevent PTSD from forming.

If I dont get a job in the IT field by summer, I am thinking about coaching football----my older brother is a coach and he loves it!

I've coached a lot of city league fball and basketball and it is a lot of fun. Having a positive impact on a young'ns life is a great feeling.

I have flashbacks ... but not often now, they used to be worse. I tend to get them at the same time of year because the events that caused them in the first place happened around that time. I don't know whether it's PTSD related for you or not (I was never diagnosed with PTSD myself but, loosely speaking, that's what my flashbacks amount to) but, if it is, you should do some reading on it to try and get to the root of it. As for sensorary memories - i.e sounds/smells that trigger a memory for you - I find certain aftershaves can send me on a trip.
If you're acting violently when having flashbacks then it's all the more imperative for you to find the cause so as to stop it sooner rather than later.

Yup...

The smell of sausage down at the Vet sends me back to when my grandmother would make sausage scallopine. I can't eat anyone else's scallopine, and consider it good even if it don't taste bad.

I have a reoccurring dream where I'm apparently in Europe during WW2 in a stone church. Beautiful church...window panes lit from the candles, tile floors, sculptures, etc. I'm in a pew near the back, and there's a choir singing Christmas carols up front. I open up a letter from home, cry, and then I wake up.

Yes, I am the team leader of a 7 men patrol and one of my men get shot by a sniper in the shoulder. :(

Or, the two kids shot in front of our camp in Bosnia by Serbs forces dued to
stupidity of the CO following " the book".

Or the women cruxified.

Peoples shopped hands in Siera Leonne or worst Rwanda and I pass.

:(

I also enjoy coaching youth. The only negative part is dealing with some of the parents.
