Fixing an overbite...advice needed

Hey guys, i am 20 y/o and i have an overbite...
Before i go on, let me explain, my head is circle shaped and my profile is bad. My parents thought about getting it fixed when i was about 12 yrs old but financial problems seemed to bar them. For the past year i started chewing with my front teeth and extending my jaw forward thinking it would fix it as i grew older. Sadly i got no results other then my teeth getting crooked and grinding my front teeth as i used them to chew. My crappy planned experiment failed. Its really depressing. I know most people will just forget about it and think its not something to worry over. But being a figure artist i know my facial structure is very different.

So the past few weeks i've been looking into getting my over overbite fixed and get a better profile. I made an appointment with my dentist by making a phony excuse about my teeth hurting, so i wouldn't look like a shallow person to my parents or dentist (relax i go to uni). After making pointless conversations about teeth pain i bring up the topic about my overbite; we discuss it and he says "There is nothing wrong with an overbite"...and that was it. And now i am freaking desperate, my body is good but its just that one retarded thing. So here are my questions:

How do i get my overbite fixed? who do i go to get it fixed? Price range? has anyone else done this procedure? Any advice would be appreciated...

You need cirurgy done to fix it.

At first they put braces in you teeth, to make sure they get align. After a year they perfom a cirurgy they called "orthogonatic surgery"

Do some google research you'll find your answer.

My mom had a really bad overbite, and had braces & then a retainer for quite a while (if I remember right it was 2-3 years) they had talked about doing the surgery but I guess there were many risks with the surgery and she decided not to go through with it. But, her smile is perfect now, can't tell she ever even had problems with her teeth or jaw. I'd definately say get a second opinion about it. Find a different dentist (someone that will give you a referral to an orthodontist.) It depends on how big your overbite is as to how long you'd have to wear them. I've also heard of Invisalign, but heard they don't work quite as well. Like I said, just depends on the orthodontist and hopefully you'll get it figured out. Good luck!

I know how you feel, I have a slight overbite and a little gap between my teeth, it drives me crazy. But everyone I know says it's not as bad as I think it is. I'm pretty critical of myself when it comes to my teeth, though. Once again, I wish you luck and hope that you are able to get this taken care of like you'd like to.

I am a 2nd year dental student and I just recently had a class/lab in ortho. Invisalign will not work for you because it is only made to slightly adjust anterior teeth from canine to canine.

Braces should work to improve or diminish your overbite...i think you may mean overjet which is how far your upper maxillary teeth are in comparison to your lower mandibular teeth . A little bit of overjet is natural. I can send you a powerpoint on ortho patients that show before and after profile views of people who had braces. Makes a good difference.

hmmm....i went to the ortho couple of months ago, and he told me that i have a very small over bite, about 9%. He said i have a very small jaw, and i have to agree with him. I am the only one in my family with a small jaw. I have to hang out my jaw and suck in my cheeks for my face to look remotely proportional. Is there any way to fix a small jaw? Open to all options atm. I really truely want to get over this and move on with my life.

So this lady in the pic i sent had ortho treatment. As you can see by the pic, her overjet was corrected greatly. The treatment is also less invasive. I'm sure you can have surgery done where they move your jaw forward, but I don't know anything on that. Gluck man.
