The firing of arnett was a gutless move by NBC to do. While i would like to take him out back and kick his ass i believe in freedom of the press and the freedom of speech. As a reporter he only mentioned his opinion. NOthing he said gave away any military secrets and was nothing more than what has been reported by many of his colleagues.
I personally object to all the crap the news brings us about the war because it tells our enemies too much. However, arnett merely mentioned that:
The allied war plan, "has failed because of Iraqi resistance".- While i disagree, i have heard that from many other morons in the media.
He also stated that "In my commentaries on television I would tell the Americans about the determination of the Iraqi forces, the determination of the government, and the willingness to fight for their country," - again i have heard the same thing by other news outlets and reporters.
So basically the main problem is that it was done on iraqi television. I am sure the iraqi people have access to the comments of the US reporters who are saying the same thing. So to think that now the iraqi people will now be inspired by his comments is a bit foolish. Of course, if he had mentioned US/british troop positions i would be in favor of a public execution.
Arent the american troops in Iraq fighting for things like the freedom of speech?
Thats just my opinion and i am sure many people disagree because NBC fired him because of mounting complaints from the public.
