Subject: AVMA new proposal would force you to buy all your vet supplies from a vet only

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) is currently
redrafting
the Model Veterinary Practice Act.

The way we read it, The AVMA draft directs lawmakers to prohibit
mail-order and
internet veterinary supply companies from selling
directly to breeders, pet stores and the general public. It sets the
ground work
to make it illegal for you to purchase and administer vaccines,
wormers and
other medications such as flea & tick medications and vitamins.
It would also make it illegal to seek advise about animal welfare
issues from
anyone other than a licensed veterinarian. The language even goes as
far as to
make phone calls, fax consultations and email consultations illegal.

We at Lambriar Animal Health Care have built our business based upon
low
prices and availability of product via mail order catalog, internet and
telephone. We understand that this is key to ensuring that all animals
receive affordable healthcare and the medications necessary for a
healthy
and happy life, all at a fair price. We agree that the veterinarian is
an
integral part of this process, however, we disagree with the statement
that
the veterinarian should be the sole source for all animal healthcare
products and welfare issues.

This proposed action could strip every animal owner of their rights to
choose how they would care for their pets and the manner in which they
could
purchase medications and seek advise.

In our opinion, this draft looks like an attempt by the AVMA to create
a monopoly
regarding
"animal welfare" and potentially infringes on interstate commerce,
affects a
person¹s due process rights and potentially interferes with the freedom
of
contract.

Please join us and offer your support in opposing the passage of this
draft.
You must act quickly! All letters to AVMA must be postmarked by
Saturday,
March 15th, 2003.

letters and examples to send to AVMA opposing this bill and to gain a
better
understanding of the nature of this action.

Thank-you for your support and patronage. We look forward to serving
you in
the future.
