FFOS has a question for MP5

Just wanted to mention my own name since nobody else is.

Ok, here is my question. Can you take down an elephant with a 45 magnum and what's the most powerful rifle that a person can purchase legally?

probably not and I don't know. Comsider this a bump.

never heard of a 45 mag, but there is one listed in a book i have. Doubt any handgun would do much unless it were point blank range to the head or in the ear.

Based on my info at home, the highest power cartridge is called a ".577 Tyrannosaur". It is producing over 10,000 pounds of kinetic energy!!!!!! To put that in perspective, a 30.06 has around 2800 pounds.

ok, so could that bad boy split a tree in half or go through 3 inches of steel?

Definitely blow a tree away, not sure about the steel. Maybe with a full metal jacket, but i doubt it. I cannot imagine owning a gun called a .577 Tyrannosaur!!! How cool would that be?

that would be sweet. i am guessing you can take down an elephant with the .577 Tyrannosaur. How about an M16? Would that take down an elephant? How much does the .577 Tyrannosaur cost? What kind of permits do I need?

an M16 is only a .223 caliber. Pretty much like a 22 on Halo! Not sure where you would even get the .577, it would be legal i imagine cause i am sure it is either a single shot or a bolt action. Most guns like that are European or found in Africa. You could get say a .375 H&H mag, or a .458 mag with little problem here at any decent gun shop. They pack a hell of a punch too. I am guessing shells for the .577 are probably atleast $20 a round.

Do we have an elephant loose in the NY area or something? :worried:

the best way to measure the power or penetration from a projectile is through kinetic energy which is measured in foot pounds. My bow shoots an arrow with 68 pounds KE, and it will blow through an elk no problem. I cannot imagine a gun with 10,000 fired from a person.

The Bushmaster only is popular because of those two coons out murdering people. You can actually build your own M16 type rifle from several different outfits. You can choose barrels, different uppers and lowers, sights, and stocks.

Darktooth, my next gun is a Taurus 454 Casull, sweet weapon. Although i do want an Ak47 or one of its variants. I have an SKS which is sweet, but i want an AK too.

maybe one day i can be in africa and a rhino attacks me and i don't want to be caught with bullets flying off the rhino cause i wasn't packing enough heat. Always be prepared.

j2 it has 2 do with thermodynamics

dude, i am in thermodynamics now and i have never heard of such a thing. unless it is part of super advance thermodynamics which i will thankfully never get involved in. what is a pound of energy really equivalent to?

in the english system, energy values would be designated in lb-ft.

I think Glock is overpriced and over-rated for what you get. The HK was the original poly framed handgun, and they are awesome. I think i would get the HK or a Sig if i were laying out some cash. For the money it is hard to beat the Ruger P series. I have a P89 with aftermarket grips, and a 30 shot clip. Not sure of any other handgun that you can buy a 30 shot clip for. I have never once had my Ruger jam either. Ruger hooked up with Kalashnikov back in the day and they went over firearm design together.

Bushmaster makes some excellent ar15-type rifles. They are up there with Armalite and Colt as far as quality is concerned. Excellent customer service and great quality control. By the way, if you like the .577 tyrantasaurus, you'll shit yourself when you see the .600 Nitro Express. If I can find video of these two monsters in action I'll post it.

the 600 nitro and even the 700 nitro only produce 7500-8000 lbs of energy. The .577 is cranking out over 10,000! That makes it king.
