That's not the point. It shouldn't be happening in the first place.

I get the point- I really, really can't stand him tho.... sorry...

It's the point of the thing. While he is not being censored, he's being censored by the blackmail being directed at the stations that air his show. Basically, if they air his show, they have to pay. Thus companies drop the show to save money and he is censored, so to speak.

I'm sorry, but when did the US turn communist?

It's been spiraling toward that for many years now.We are not even free to put what we choose in our own bodies, big brother decides what we may and may not do.No surprise they would try to censor freedom of speech(or particular materials),they've been doing that with major media outlets for decades.

As much as I despise Stern, this is shit. One, has anyone heard any mention of fining Hip Hop stations? Is there really anything that Stern talks about that is not sung on these stations? Can we say hypocrisy?
NO. The hip hop stations routinely drop profanity and the use of the word "n" word as well.

And as for all of you who don't like stern, it's your right to not like him, and it's your right to change the channel. it's not the FCC's right to take people off the air. It sets a precident for anything to get pulled off the air. All that will be left if these idiots have their way is muzak and that's it.

The real question is, will this change even if Bush is elected out of office; or now that the government has the power to do this, will it continue to spiral even more out of control? The government has proven time and time again that once it has the power it rarely relenquishes it back afterwards.

That's what worries me.

no it won't change. once the ball starts rolling it usually doesn't stop or reverse itself. however you must punish those who started the ball rolling in the first place.

I would complain but Stern is a satanic agent in my opinion.

You're quite possibly right. But they don't always come for the Communists first.* No, first they come for the satanists, or maybe the queers. Then the Communists, etc. etc. They'll get around to you.

Stern's a scabrous little fleck of shite and I'd have no problem locking his threads if he were posting here -- but I'm not the FCC and this is not a public forum -- it is a private one. Feds should be held to a lot higher standard than a board admin.

* as in:

First they came for the Communists,
and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Jew.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn’t speak up,
because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me,
and by that time there was no one
left to speak up for me.

What if the FCC controled EF and we couldn't say "C___, S___, B____."

As a parent, who doesn't allow my child to watch TV unsupervised, this type of censorship is an outrage.

Seriously, as long as parents are smart about their children's viewing habits, who gives a flying rat's ass if Janet flashes a titty, or if someone on the radio uses swear words???

First they went into Waco...
Then they came after supplements...
Then they came after Stern...

Thanks Digger, I'd forgotten all about that quote...

While "some" profanity may be bleeped (which can be argued, since the majority of the word makes it through...kinda like bleeping the 'C' in fuck) the gist of most of their music is fucking like rabbits, being gangstas and pimpin. A recent song I heard was reminiscent of To Live Crew, nothing but sex.

While I agree, I find it noteworthy that while many rail against censorship by government, they are NOT very supportive or free market restrictions being dropped on ownership issues of media. They don't want government to tell them what to watch, but they do want government to control who can and can't do business in the market.

Reminds me of my my time in Georgia, 97-99, then I grew up. :(

yup. where was Redstone on this one? Quiet. He's 80ish, has a $10B fortune, stand up for something already....

Of course we can all easily avod Stern if we choose.

Some of us have concerns outside of our personal universe. I think about impressionable kids who tune in and are mesmerized by his INCESSANT blabber about bukkake, lesbianism, implants, and girls taking on 300 guys.

Whenever some new fad came out that was lower than the last one, it always had a steadfast promoter in Howard Stern.

If adults want to view/listen to Stern...then great. But kids can not be watched 24/7 and they are very impressionable.

Damn! This takes me back to the early 70's and the same shit I heard as a kid about listening to Cheech and Chong...

This was done before when radio first started, it was a disaster. Media companies actually begged for Goverment assistance in regulating the airwaves.

That would be because such protectionist policies benefits the established companies, not for any altruistic reasoning. Why do you think it was decades before we had any stations other than CBS, NBC, and ABC?

Yup.

The Internet has developed freely, and content wise it is far superior to any other media in terms of offerings.

Why does the FCC exist anyway? Do they actually serve a purpose?

Basically to keep radio and TV stations from walking all over each other. (Mrs. Digger's PhD thesis was on the transition of radio from hobby to "household utility" -- a term used by David Sarnoff in 1920.)

That function is a US treaty obligation, by the way.

Do ya think the absence of government controls has anything to do with that?

:)

Will someone please pull Rush Limbaugh off the air as well? We can't have this junky influencing the minds of our children with his babbling and name calling.

Sure thing.....his name is pretty well synonomous with Stern's. Identical content donchaknow.

I find it interesting that the liberals can't seem to find an antidote to Rush. I suspect that meanness, name calling, and back stabbing just fits a certain profile more naturally.

Forget about howard stern. his schtick wa sfunnny 10 YEARS ago!

my question is. Wh y is the FCC preventing soft and hardcore porn on cable dammit!! Fuck the FCC for deciding that i can't watch double anal penetration!!!!

i told every1 that today they block hardcore porn -- tomorrow they'll block other shit. No one listened to me. Well suffer now you bahstads!!!
