Yes, ZK, most people who live here think it is super chic. I think that is because they feel the subconscious need to justify paying overtly ridiculous prices to live here. So, they make this aura that slo is a quaint little cottage town with culture and arts, when in reality, it is just an Ag-school town adapting to the 21st century. Yes, Cal-Poly started, and up until the last 15 or so years, has been an Aggie College where the min requirements to get in was a Diploma and a 2.0 GPA. Actually, that was the secret way into the school up until maybe four or five years ago. You would just start out in the Agriculture program (due to its easy admittance) and then jump over to your preferred curriculum. Now its hard as hell to get in and is better known for Engineering and Architecture.
However, this whole county is still farms and ranches with a few cities thrown in so people can feel good about paying a million dollars to live next to a winery and some cattle.
The coast is stunning though, that is why I like it.
I think if I had to use one term to describe SLO it would be "Fratboy Fashion"
When I go out, guys look at me like I am some fuckin' alien because I ain't wearing big johnson t-shirt and backwards hat. One drunken ass, in front of his friends, uttered the words, "pretty boy fag". I told him, "thank you, that is just the look I'm going for". I don't really care though, because the ladies seem to appreciate it.
Funny stuff.
