well, its a long story, but I just found out my grandfather (mom's dad) is gay. he's 78 and has never come out and never will. he is a VERY strict catholic and it goes against everything he was ever raised to believe. something happened which sort of outed him unbeknownst to him and now there is much commotion on that side of the family.

and as if my family weren't funny enough as it is. I don't care if he is gay or not, but I just feel bad that he has had to hide it all these years, or at least feel that he has to hide it.
now there is discussion as to whether his wife knows.
you have to give him credit for sticking with a family that long.

I hope your family is able to adjust to that. My family was in complete upheaval about my Grandmother getting remarried. It may take some time to process.

all the kids (my mom's brothers and sisters - 3 girls, 1 guy) are pissed - they don't give a shit if he's gay, they still love him, but he was such a Nazi growing up that they are mad that it was likely b/c he was in denial and trying to repress it all and taking it out on them.

gotta love a religion that tells you what you are doing is wrong and it fucks up all the lives in your family.
my uncle is going to counseling again to deal with it.

my sorta neighbour is gay and came out to his family a few years ago... but he and his wife (the didn't divorce) pretend like it never happened, even though he has a bf and lives with him... my friend interned with him while he was still teaching and he gave his wife's phone number as the number to call. well she called once to tell him she was sick (she didn't know he didn't live there) and his wife pretended like he had just stepped out for a minute... now how screwed up is that?
