External laptop hard drive installation?

so no message saying "new hardware found" is coming up?

have you tried right clicking MY Computer and clicking Manage, then going into DISK MANAGEMENT and seeing if it shows up there? if not creat a ms-dos bootdisk and fun FDISK and see if you can format it from there.

Says my new hardware will not work properly.

Wonder if I need drivers for the hard drive case or for the hard drive.

thats a driver issue.

1. double check compatibility with your operating system ( i hope you got XP).

2. download latest drivers from harddrive makers site.

3. google the harddrive and see if anyone else had similar problems, try google groups.

I have XP. :)

Dunno....two Micro Center employees said I don't have to worry about jumper setting with notebook hard rives. Which makes no sense at all.

But the hard drive came with no jumpers...so it does make sense then.

I'll try the hard drive drivers first.

Well...the Samsung web site had drivers for this 2.5" hard drive alright.

In DOS only. No help.

I think I'll try a jumper. Jumpers can mean everything.

Do 2.5" drives use the same jumpers as 3.5" drives?

This hard drive looks to be configured to be the master hard drive right now. No good.
