Expired fina pellets?

I have some fina pellets that expired in April 2004, I am guessing that they are garbage and should not be converted?

At the moment I'm on some that expired Jan 2004. According to a local Vet (the animal kind) they should be thrown out. I'm not sure if that's just because of his policy or that the active ingredients have deteriorated, or what. I can say that they crumbled like crazy when taking them out of the cart, most came out like powder, which is unusual. It seems to be working, but I'm only a week into it.

I was under the pretence that all out of date drugs are not necessarily bad, but just lose some of their potency. As a matter of fact, I was told that we take all of our expired drugs and send them out to third world countries where they cannot afford "in-date" drugs.

Any takes on this?
