1.) What does the word "homophobe" mean?
Well, "homo" means "same," as in
homosexual = "same sex."
And of source, "phobe" means fear.
So, "homophobe" means fear of sameness. That doesn't seem to accurately describe people who don't like homosexuals.
2.) The very word
homophobe is a very biased term. It attempts to labell all of those who don't like homosexuals as being "afraid" of them, thereby automatically making the dislike of homosexuals a disease or mental imbalance.
If we use this reasoning, we could most of today's society "Christophobes."
Very insulting and misleading. Disliking any group is not a mental imbalance, just a judgement call by the individual.
3.) I like homosexuals. Some of my favourite sexual conquests have been homosexuals. So don't flame me as though I'm a "homophobe."
I'm just arguing semantics.
