Ever been to an intervention?

You know, for drug addiction/abuse. Just curious....think it would be pretty intense. Denial is a strong reaction

Yup, I would immediately say 'Fuck this, Im outta here' no matter what, even if I needed it, which I dont. Still, I would rather jump out a window that go through something like that. I dont see how anyone wouldnt leave immediately unless they really were at ropes end to begin with and wanted to quit and get that kind of help. Ive known alot of people whove quit stuff and not one of them that I could imagine sticking around for an intervention LOL. People who are into substances are loathe to discuss it openly like that.

You actually had to go to the AA meetings? For the DUI? Damn, that sucks. I just had to go to some classes. Like "alchohol education"

I publically denounced their teachings. But I did it in such a way as to not try to offend them...they were in there for legitimate reasons and I felt like I was not.

I was reading about AA today for a class. I don't like how the 12 steps is all based off God. That doesn't apply to everybody

Been to a real intervention, I didn't have much to say. This guy was totally out of his mind and paraniod. He was right to be paraniod because people were watching him. He ended up in a 2 month lock down rehab center out in no where NC.

I'd go to AA for pussy.

Their loophole is that when you submit to 'god' its not specified which god it is...it could be anything.

I dont buy it, I hold nothing higher than my own capabilities.

They try to tell you have an alcohol problem too, which is ridiculous.

Yup, forged the slips after the first few meetings. That ruins it for people legitimately there although they usuallly start for some driving offense themselves and got introduced to the meetings that way and then when they finally decided it was time and they were sick of it then it wasnt that big of deal going to them and getting support with people in similar mindsets. ALot of funny bastards if you find a good meeting afterall they were partiers at one time.

...usually when some dude is trying to pick up a girl "excuse me miss, is this meatball bothering you? oh shucks thanks, you look great too why dont we get out of here and go somewhere quiet..."

It would be tough.. I havent even been to one.. but i have tried to get people out of abusive relationships and boy.. trying to get someone to see that light is like pulling teeth

Not an official intervention, but a mini-one. Denial, like others have already said is pretty hard to reason with. Until they see it themselves.. it's frustrating on all sides.

I'm not an alcoholic, I'm not in denial. Its as simple as that.

AA brainwashes people, its failure rate is huge, its a wasted program imo.

People push this denial thing. What a bunch of crap.

My boss was a coke addict for years. He can't say enough about how AA helped him.

Everyone's different, and like a diet, what works for some, won't for others.
