1000iu 1h before training won't do shit. It takes about 2 weeks for this drug for beginning to raise hematocrit levels (= much, much more endurance) and the effects lasts for months.
2000iu eod is a good dose to begin.
Take at least 5-6 x 2000iu if you want to see something.
Cyclist and runners usually take 24000iu the 4 weeks before a contest, along with low gh doses (really low : 2iu eod).
And the top cyclists take epo all year long (200000iu/year is not uncommon).
With "only" 12 or 24000iu, you should only check you BP ed. stop epo intake if you're over 15/9, and take aspirin, vit E, fishoil...
The only thing is that AS raise also hematocrit levels, so a low dose should be enough if you're on juice.
