Like it plays for a while and stops?

What OS?
9 seconds and i am running xp on that computer... home edition... yeah it came on it and i am lazy.

divx is MPEG-4. It is actually and officially called DivX;)

Seriously.

Go to the divx.com site and get the *free* codec - not the add supported player, but just the free codec. I think it also installs a very simple player called tha' playa' or something.

It gives near DVD quality with a fraction of the space and is better than MPEG-1 (VCD).

DVD is MPEG-2.

I'm running XP Pro at home, and I had a hell of a time getting DivX movies to play prior to XP SP1....you tried WindowsUpdate?

Trust me....

Download and run ffdshow...

It will solve all sorts of problems when you attempt to view divx or xvid movies you've downloaded off the internet. It won't help with audio issues, but it will fix a lot of video decoding problems.
Been looking for you.

Do you have good luck with a site for hosting lots of pics? You mentioned something once.

Would have shot a PM but I am 46 PMs over my new quota. :)

How big are the files? It's the bandwidth costs that will kill ya if there are a lot of big files and a lot of interested people.

Ease of use depends upon what you want to do with the pics. Gallery is a nice free image viewing hunk of software that I have on one of my home servers. It's free... There are hosts that will run it for ya.

sites that host gallery

If you need to deface/watermark your photog pics, you could probably do a photoshop macro before you upload everything.

I am thinking of thumbnails.....maybe 300 by 450 or so. I tend to take a lot of photos.....sometimes over 500 with a large wedding.

It would allow people to see the pics and order from me. It would mostly be a service because I would think the time involved would not make it financially worthwhile. People will willingly gobble up an hour of time while you net $8. Tough when the business cost you a over a thousand a month.

It could be a bad rip, but it's probably an encoding glitch if part of the movie plays. If a movie hangs in spot, try reloading the movie and fast forward past that spot. I've had problems with that in older divx encoded movies, but only when using the divix.com codec. With ffdshow, I've never had that problem.

Gallery will *automatically* build the thumbnails for you. That's kinda nice.

Gallery has a java client that makes uploading batches of photo's pretty easy.

It's one of the most automated pieces of photo browsing software that I've found. Pretty easy to work with and customize.

What I read said that my website would have to have something (php?) for photo hosting.

Do you use Gallery on your own web site?

Gallery is a PHP program. PHP is a scripting language for websites

I use Gallery on a server to host pics for family and friends to see. Helluva lot easier than emailing them out to everybody.

hmmm... it seems ffdshow didn't install it doesn't have an option to run the program... that's wierd. if it's one thing i have learned is that they should have an industry standard

It's a directshow filter. Under my system it shows up with an entry in the program group under ffdshow with two entries. One to configure, one to delete itself.

Did you try running the movie?

damn... still plays 9 secs and then stops... normally i would have given up by now... but it is kind of personal at this point

Well, at this point, I've shot my geek load. I'm out of ideas.
