Encryption 101: Ideas On How To Keep Your Privacy

Well, this is the thread that George Spellwin said we could start about encryption. So, what ideas do you all have on improving encryption? I would also like to hear from our EF lawyers (Rick Collins, Maggio, Citrus) about the legalities involved with foreign-based encrypted email companies like Hushmail. Furthermore, is there a possiblity that the Feds could ever subpoena EF email, even though EF is powered by foreign-based Hushmail? My reason for asking this question is that the company that provides the email service is foreign based, but the website that provides access to that very same email service is US based. So could the Feds get around the issues of jurisdiction, and say that EF, AS A US BASED COMPANY, must turn over all its documents, including EF mail?

You can't subpeona hushmail. That's the whole point of the architecture. All emails stored on thier server are encrypted and only you have the key.
