Elite Fitness Select

Can anyone tell me how to gain access to this board? Do you have to pay a fee? It says to click on the reports and consultations link, but I did and nothing happens.

Can anyone help me out?

yeah, i dont wanna flame the board or george but i post on a lot of different message boards for some of my different interests. I personally really apreciate the effort put forth by elite mods and the admin but surely there are other ways to make money off the site rather than restricting part of the board to paying members. Its kinda lame. First board ive ever seen try this.

E-Rawk I am sure George would be thankful for any other ways you can suggest that would make some revenue. This site is the largest of its kind on the net. The layout, the admin, the designers all need to be paid, the software and hardware costs money. We dont pay a thing. I consider it as making a loss, but yet it is still here. If you or anyone else can think of methods then please e-mail me or the man himself :) I wouldnt mind paying in some way for the up keep and maintainance of what I consider my home.

Peace

Just wanna clarify that this was just my opinion and im very happy with elite. I guess i was under the impression that massquantities and advertisements would be enough to pay for the costs of the site. I belong to a sport bike board which is really big and the admin makes more than enough to pay for the site costs by advertising alone. I doubt it matters, but i'm a professional web designer/Computer Programmer/Graphic Designer so i'm willing to help out but i'm sure you have more than enough people to run the site. I guess it just seems a little cheesy to have a paying members section on any site like this. But again, this is only my opinion. I'm sure if that area was free, the quality of the posts in there would go way down or that section would be useless.

btw, there are no flames, no repetitive posts and so forth on the select board. thats gotta be priceless :D

Hmmm... sounds much like the Anabolic Fitness board, yet that one is still free.

The Select Board is well worth the price.

It defrays some of the expense of the non-subscription boards, which are growing at a phenomonal rate, which is good for everyone, since this is the highest quality board on the Internet.

Your posts won't get lost in the fray, and you'll get better attention because you'll be considered relatively serious - having paid for solid advice.

And like Iron said, you won't see flames and repetitive posts. However, even if you are a newbie, you will be accorded respect on Select, and people will treat your questions with appropriate seriousness.

And you won't see posts from all manner of people who try to veil their posts on the non-subscription boards as just a way to sell gear or ask for "postcards."

Bro's,

I appreciate your concern, but unfortunately, advertising revenues have dried up on the net as a whole and sites are going under left and right. Although we are losing money too, I am determined not to let that happen here, and if you like this site, I would sincerely appreciate your support.

I was a big fan of kozmo.com, but they were losing so much money that they closed. They delivered movies to your home for free -- perhaps they should have charged a bit extra for this service.

With all respect to the other fine boards and bodybuilding sites out there, few are as elaborate as this one. Yesterday the entire elitefitness.com site had 51,000 visitors. Our site is at a tier one facility and runs on multiple servers running Raid5 with quad Xeon processors. All these visitors were reading the boards, sending PM's, looking a pictures, checking their free elitefitness.com email, creating free websites that Geocities would not allow, searching, and reading articles -- almost entirely for free.

I like free things myself and I wish all of elitefitness.com could be free. And I hope you will remember, we have more free features and information on this site than any other fitness site on the net.

In the near future, Elite Fitness Select will become part of our Platinum membership offering. The Platinum membership will cost a very small amount each month and provide access to the Select board, the new Usenet boards (soon to be launched) and the picture boards. All the other boards will remain free as they always have been.

There is really nothing like elitefitness.com anywhere on the net, and we want to make sure that we stay around to continue to educate the world about our brand of fitness.

Well said Mr. Spellwin, I am just curious as to how much this service would cost per month?

Our servers cost about $14,000 each. Then there is bandwidth, rackspace, tech people, software, and more.

I work for the largest IT/Computer/Tech company out there. Being an IT Architect and former programmer, there are certain things that you can do to a website that don't necessarily force a user to click on a banner but kinda of guides them in that general direction and helps bring in more revenue. At 50,000 plus users a day all clicking banners, well that's a nice bit of change. If you want more info on the process and how to go about it, PM me. I'll forgo the usual rate of $275 an hour and provide my consulting services for free. :D

I'm sorry, I thought you said how much do our servers cost. We do not know the pricing of the Platinum membership yet -- but it will not be much. We do plan to let everyone try the new usenet boards for free for a while.

Thanks, I would appreciate any ideas you would care to email me. What I have noticed, is that many sites are making the banners huge in size. I do not like this option myself.

george have u got a compaq quad server or a HP? I migh tcan help u for the next one :D

Actually, we are a Dell/Sun shop moving everything to Dells. We run Red Hat.

so wait, now you have to pay for the elite and between the sheets section? geez, i really dont wanna move to another board, but come on...

Just like with anything, people LOVE to complain, complain, complain. I'm a waitress, and when I tell people how much it is for a certain entree, drink, ect. They just love to bitch---and I just feel like saying "If you don't want to pay for it, then don't get it!"

I guarentee, if George desided to charge for ALL the boards, people would do it. This is such an awesome place to learn or just have fun. But he's only talking about charging for one board so far!

My 2 cents is that George knows whats best for his company and his site, and should do what ever he feels is going to keep it running-----

:)

Like George said, if anyone has any good ideas for him to make the money to uphold the site and therefore keep most of it free, then mail him with any info. But you guys got to realize that sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

george thats a pity - i have a compaq 6400R (4u quad xeon) laying around here that was never touched but i agree overall dell is easier to work with - frankly id build my own if i were u but you may not have the people who know how. BTW - for your secure connections tho still look at compaqs attalla card axl600 or something like that - it gives fantastic increase in performance for ssl connections for about $1500 - 600 connects concurrent.

only problem i have with paying for it is a loss of annonymnity (however slight we currently have) if ever there was a "treasure trove" of a database to be hacked or subpenoed by the powers that be that would be it - we arent exactly talking abeout baking cakes here ya know.

I'll be honest. The information you get here is PRICELESS!!

Back in the day, something like this would've changed the BB World as we know it. I would have given anything for something like this, and the diverse group that gather each day....The wealth is beyond bounds...

If we don't support the internet BB community now, soon, the goverment, whether state or local, will do everything in their power to shut us down....

Already happening.....

The reports are well written, and will get you in the game with more knowledge, at a much quicker rate....again....PRICELESS!!!

In the world as we know it, our BB Community is very small.....there are so very few who actually relish the day to day pain in hopes of growing a mere inch...

The information you find on this site is much more detailed than Flex, M & F, Ironman...etc. Now, take the price of each of those mags, add them up per month, buy the supplements the Pro's push, what have ya got???

I personally look through them at the magazine rack, but don't purchase them anymore....nothing in their about gear like it used to be....

Let's keep our community strong, pave the way for those yet to come....It's not a big deal, and the only income that comes from this is what is sold.....

Besides.....I really don't wanna leave anytime soon....Heh heh heh

Muscular Development has some good info about gear usage.

Actually, we are a Dell/Sun shop moving everything to Dells. We run Red Hat.

Well at least your running a unix OS...of course we could tell that just by the lack of down time :)

Only thing you could do now to make it better is get a nice RS/6000 in there :).

P.S. I love linux, just not a fan of intel for high end applications :)

zygy - the setup to gowiht now is to buy 4 dual athlons (the tyan board) - cluster them -can even use MS now- compaq crypty cards - and a decent person who knows how to mirror a database acrosse them and presto - unlimited traffic

Hey George

How about having some sort of voluntary fee or contribution every month or so. Some may think it's crazy to suggest this, but hell, all the money I have saved due to actually learning the in's and out's of AS use is well worth contributing a little. I dunno just a suggestion.

CYCLEON, or just use an RS/6000 SP system and you can scale nearly limitless.

P.S. Ascii white is IBM's flagship SP system running AIX and by far and away the worlds most powerfull computer. 6 terabytes of RAm and 160 terabytes of disk and 8192 processors :)

Dude, i would deffenitly donate $. Thats a good idea. I'm all 4 donating money to a good cause.

All you have to do is click on his banner everytime you come here.
If everyone did that, he would make a good amount of cash to support the site and put a little extra in his pocket.
Very easy, just click on the banners.

I wouldn't mind paying a small fee for access to these boards, the downside however is that you will lose a lot of your user base. I have seen it happen to many sites before, when they go from a free service to a pay subscription service it hurts them bad. In all honesty most people want everything on the internet to be free, they don't want the internet to be like other businesses because they think internet should be a free place (ie. mp3, free software, game demos, piracy etc..). I think that a paid subscription to only certain boards would be the best method as it will still draw in revenue from the loyal users yet it will still keep a relatively large user base with it's free service.
:D

Some boards would HAVE TO remain free to attract new poeple in. Would you pay for a board youd never used before? Of course not. Would be a damn shame but I know why it has to be this way.

How many people are currenty part of SELECT George?

That's the plan!

Sounds good!
Sign me up, I would rather get a subscription to these boards then some muscle mag that doesn't offer anywhere near the amount of information, personalized help, being able to interact with people with similar interests and of course the great pics of the beautiful women members ;)
