Egg beaters for breakfast

New member
I recently just bought a carton of eggbeaters (liquid egg whites) from the grocery store. For breakfast I'm gonna start having them in addition to 1 scoop of whey protein shake in water and 1/2 cup of oats.

My question is could I mix 1 cup of egg beaters (24 g protein) with my scoop of whey and lets say...12 oz of water?

And if I do it like this, will mixing the slow acting proteins (liquid egg whites) and fast acting proteins (whey) NOT be a smart idea?

If this is not smart, what are good ways to cook the egg beaters?

And can you get salmonilla from drinking the liquid egg whites in my shake?

I can't help with the effectiveness of mixing whey and egg white, but I can help with the risk of contracting salmonella from eating raw eggs by directing you to this article: http://www.mercola.com/2002/nov/13/eggs.htm

In summary:
- Only 1 in every 30,000 eggs are infected with salmonella (0.00003%).
- Salmonella infections are only present in sick hens, which are usually only present in traditionally raised commercial hens... therefore, using high quality cage-free eggs virtually eliminates this risk.
- Ensure the egg is fresh by making sure the egg shell has no cracks it in by immersing it in a pan of water (if the egg contains a crack it will emit a stream of bubbles) and thouroughly inspect and smell the egg after cracking and before consuming it.

Egg Beaters is a pasturized product...so the chance of getting salmonella is zero.

I'd say mixing the two protein sources together is fine.

I think its perfectly fine with the egg beaters.. but if you ever plan on heating up the whey protein is not a good idea (thats what I've been hearing)

Heating up whey protein???? can you explain?

Yes 6pak, thats what Im hearing everywhere. If you heat up the whey protein you would loose the protein content that you need to build up
