Effects of using insulin when not working out.

I understand the whole concept of using insulin after a workout, but what about using it on off workout days. Since glycogen depletion hasn't occurred from a workout, will protein and carbs consumed after taking insulin be stored as fat ?

some people say its necessary, and some say it'll just make you fat. from everything i've read it makes me believe it'd make you fat, but its an interesting question. i wish i could help more...all i can say is that it is probably more beneficial on training days and your almost definately more sensitive, do a search on insulin you'll find scords of good articles...i just picked up some humulin-r the other day and some 28g pins, i read up and plan on starting sometime this week, i'll only do it once a month for about a week, just to give myself a little benefit...too scared to use it more regularly..be careful and good luck

ideally i would like to use humilin in the morning to have it last throughout the day and after working out in the evening using humalog. i'm just hesitant to do the humilin because i'm not sure if i will be restoring glycogen or storing fat. ( my diet throughout the day will be very low in fat). anyone have any thoughts?

Glycogen storage depends on the sensitivity of the cells to insulin, not the amount of insulin. If your insulin is not defective, then glyogen storage goes along quite well. If you are insulin resistant, then glucophage will help shuttle the carbs into the muscle. If too much insulin is used and you are "off", you risk fat accumulation.

all the big boys tend to run 30-40iu's daily in the off season, regardless if they are due to training or not on that particular day

Personally I dont think its worth it unless you are planning on going pro.

And if you do run insulin on non workout days...try to keep fat as low as possible two hours before and 4 hours after(if using humalog) even longer if humulin-R.

I haven't done slin yet..but this is the info I have got doing research on the topic.
