EF now has 50,000 members...

Lift Chief

New member
I noticed it was just 37,000 a couple of months ago... i guess this board is still expanding like crazy.

(if this has been posted before, disregard)

Of course taking into account that number doesn't mean active members.
That number is historical as well as current.

There are people that sign up and post a few times and then never come back. There are people that have multiple accounts for one reason or another. There are people that posted a lot in the past, and then disappeared.

You can get a better idea of the real numbers by watching how many are logged on at various points throughout the day.
Then track that number over time (a week, a month, a year, etc).

That doesn't take into account luckers - those that read but don't post - and not all of those are registered.

If I had to guess, I would say that there are well under 10,000 truly active members.

It's weird how there are so many members, but ages ago there used to be 500-1000 people online at any one time routinely.

"There are currently 55 members and 83 guests on the boards. | Most users ever online was 1085 on 20-Dec-2001 at 04:09 AM."

I haven't been here all that long, but I hear that they have split the servers up now. I don't know if that means that there is a web server and a database server (as it should be) or if there are multiple web servers, and then a database machine.

If they are indeed using a load balancer, then it is feasible that the "currently online" stat is of the server that you were sent to.

Maybe, but I remember when the list of people at the bottom used to fill up my whole screen and more.

I guess that was prior to December of 2001.

Maybe you have a larger screen now. :)

I do have a larger screen now actually, but theredefinately used to be a lot more people online at any one time.

I agree, I can recall times of more people as well.

I'm not really caring one way or the other - 100% of the stuff on a web page is totally editable by whoever is serving it.

If they want to make it look like the entire planet logs on, they can.
That would certainly fill your screen.

I agree, I coundn't care less really, but back a few years ago, there may have been less total members, but it seemed like there were more active members.
