eating before workout

just so i become a little more clear on this subject, for the sake of argument let us assume we are eating carbs (simple and complex) and protein before the workout. Exactly how long should i wait to start my training session? Is 1 hour good enough or its better to wait 2 hours?
any input would appreciated :) :)

Hmm

1- 1 1/2 HRS, I usally just down a shake before I go, I dont like the feeling of carbs in my stomach when I lift, I want to workout HARD, FAST and in the back of my mind think im burning some fat as well.

I'd wait about an hour and a half at least. And you should be taking in simple carbs post workout only.

before workouts:
80%complex and 20% simple carbs

after:
almost 100% high GI carbs

The answers to this are as diverse as the answers to the question, "what is the ideal diet?".

I like to eat tofu or tuna and an apple or oats about 1.5-2 hours before working out. I like to have a completely empty stomach to workout intensely.

Ok, so what if you are going to do cardio as soon as you wake up with nothing in your stomach. And after you are finished with cardio you want to lift. I have managed to do it eating an apple in between but it seems wrong.

I would NEVER lift after a long cardio session on an empty stomach. If you must do that, wait as long as you can before lifting. And eat as much as you can in between.

I've noticed that everytime i only wait 1 hour before i train i don't perform as well...i still feel a litlle bloated :p

Hmm

DO U have to train right away, FOr me, I do 1hr of cardio at 8am, then I eat at 9, and the earliest I would renter the gym is around 10:30-12ish, If your not too tired and your meal has settled go right ahead, see if u are as strong as u typically are, if yes then keep it up, if not give it some rest for a few HRS.

Exactly, thats why I recomend and wait about 2 hrs...not much more and not less... then your pretty much digested your food enough to workout hard and not feel any food still in your stomach ... 3 hrs may still be ok depending on the type and size meal you've had. However, I think 2hrs would be better, especially if you've got your carbs mixed in there properly. You have to try to see what works best for you... :)

right, that sounds fine if you will be doing cardio on the same day of your lifting. You should lift before cardio.

Yeah i think its better if i wait 2 hours. I always try to mix about 80% of complex carbs and 20% of simple carbs, which is probably the reason why i still feel bloated after 1 hour. thanks VTEC96

I waited 2hrs before today, lifted and then did cardio and felt great. Not to mention it was leg day. Great advice. Thanks.
