Just picked up this DVD,and let me tell you,it is BAD-ASS.Based on a Michael Crichton Novel,it is a really good action-adventure Epic.Stars Antonio Banderas as an exiled Arabian ambassador with a gift for interpretation who happens upon a group of Vikings along the coastline.While visiting with them,he learns(through an oracle/witch)that their people are being butchered by a ferocious tribe on their homeland.They must dispatch a group of warriors,12 Vikings and the 13th being not of the clan(as prophesized by the oracle),which turns out to be Banderas(much to his dismay,as he is a peaceful man).From there,the battle begins,and it is a great one.Those Vikings were some ferocious dudes,sorts of gives you a peek into that era and as to why they are so revered.Battle scenes are brutal.Great movie,I highly recommend it!
 
I liked this flick. The scene were the big viking dude just sits down and dies is killer. It shows what I see as the true nature of viking warriors.

Fuck yeah,that scene gave me goosebumps.That fucking dude fought literally until the last breath in him was exhaled.Talk about a true warrior.

It is a good movie, but was misleading as fuck when it 1st came in theaters.

They made it seem like it was some kind of creatures they were fighting.

Well that was part of the drama in the movie itself.Even the Vikings themselves believed they were fighting some sort of Mythical beast up until they captured a corpse of one.
 
I read the book after seeing the movie.

Ibn Fadlan is a real character who actually did write about the Vikings. Some scenes in the movie were taken directly from his writings.

I too, own the dvd.

Wow- never saw it... I thought it sucked- thx- I will pick it up tonight....

(btw- they were crazy also cause of the shrooms they ate.... or more acurately that the leaders ate, then the piss of the leaders they drank... and so on down the ladder)
 
I thought it was an adaptation of Beowulf...

in ANY caseit is a GREAT movie and one of my favorites... those were some hard men.

and people wonder why the vast majority of the Worlds Stringest Men all originate from those lands.

its in their blood.

As continuing proof that everyone has different tastes, I almost walked out of this movie. Surprised to see that so many people liked it!!

Holy shit,that makes it even better IMO,nothing like real life characters being brought to life on the big screen.Thanks for that info,I'll hit you with some green when I recharge!

Nobody I know liked this movie (that's why I have you internet buddies with good taste)

I thought it ruled! I've even been watching it lately on the Sci-Fi channel, although it doesn't compare to a dvd.

Two thumbs and a penis up!

Yeah,that was classic,they were all snoring with one eye open,and one hand on their swords.

there are many accents I picked up within the northmen,were they from all over,or all nordic? I caught some uk accents in it to some degree

true.. I was wanting to see some supernatural creature ass whipping though.
 
That movie didn't do too well at the theatres if I remember correctly.

Seems like the best movies, for the most part don't get very much recognition.

I saw it twice last week on SciFi. It was too cold to go out here. The leader's name was Buliwyf.

That was funny,they all kept ripping on him because his horse was like half the size of theirs,but it could run circles around theirs.

That was the most surprising thing of all for me,I never got the chance to see it in the theater it came and went so quickly.I was actually expecting nothing more than a mediocre film based on that,and that is one of the reasons I was REALLY blown away by it when I actually saw it for myself.
 
aye, the chrichton novel is called 'the eaters of the dead'. i didn't read that one, but the other 5 of his i've read were at least interesting, and some really good (airframe was the first, and i enjoyed that a lot).

the movie itself is definitely watchable, but nothing special. however, it does have vikings in it. a movie with vikings is aight with me.
