stupid question , but what is firewireMr. dB said:You can't buy internal DVD burners for laptops, not at Walmart, not at Best Buy, not at CompUSA. Assuming that your laptop even has a removable CD drive bay, the manufacturer is going to be your source for those, because there is no standard for a removable drive bay spec for laptops. They're different from brand to brand, sometimes model to model.
External, you can use USB or Firewire (if you laptop has Firewire...). If you want "the best", look at a Plextor drive at www.plextor.com.

i was looking at internal drives , i think im just goin to go with an external dvd burnerMr. dB said:It's one of those arcane jacks on the back of a computer, another standard for connecting accessories to your system.

this is the one im thinkin about gettinMr. dB said:Where were you looking at internal drives? The ones at the store don't fit a laptop.
You need to know what your laptop will support. It all depends on who made it, and how old it is. If it's old enough, it might not have Firewire or USB2, but just a regular old USB jack. You need to know these things before spending any money. Do you still have the owner's manual? Or does it have an online owner's manual or user's guide on the hard drive? If necessary, contact the manufacturer or look it up on their web site.
Or go to a store that has a service counter, and take the laptop with you so they can look at it and tell you what is likely to work.
